About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

I totally agree. I was bored to death last night on the voice. It just seemed like contestants were trying to out yell each other. I didn’t really agree with some of the choices, but of course, I am not a team captain, so who cares what I think. It seemed they were encouraged to blow each other away, but to me many totally lost their voices and were basically shouting over the other person.

I always have trouble remembering the names. I thought the first duet between the girl and the guy with the Aretha song, was the best of the night.
I did think some of the duets were kind of tilted in one singer’s favor. The one duet with this girl who was a rock singer and the other girl was kind of country, wasn’t fair. It was a rock song, so of course the one with the rock voice was going to win.
I thought the last duet was also kind of a no-contest. That red-haired guy struggled with the song and his confidence all throughout the rehearsals. You could see that he wasn’t going to be able to hold his own against the other guy. That guy had a compelling backstory, coming back from being a crack addict. He also had the better voice. There was no way he wasn’t going to win.
When the outcomes seem too obvious, then I don’t enjoy this duet thing. I thought some of them were really unevenly matched.

I wondered were this thread had gone LOL…I think the audience should vote for who goes through not the judges! Let the judges pair them up and then have them sing in the battle round but utimately it would be the audiences choice for who goes and who stays!!!

Yes, the judges are not pairing these singers correctly. Not even close. It was sort of obvious last year but really obvious this year.
And the “voice” thing is not working. They turned their chair for the strangest singers this year and many great singers were ignored.
Some of these singers have zero star quality. At the end of the day, you need all the performing elements working for you. It is not enough just to have a voice.

Yeah! I am an avid watcher of the voice, watched it last year and so far this year, I just don’t think the battle rounds are working this year, it is almost like the judges picked six that they really liked and then six that they could use for fodder…BUT if the audience were to vote at this stage of the game it would cut out the one’s being used as fodder and some of the other great singers that MCL is talking about would have gotten chairs turned around, and then it could have been truly called BATTLE ROUNDS!!!

Well, I am now debating whether I am going to watch the Battle Rounds at all – but I probably will. I haven’t been able to watch any Idol yet (it’s all on TiVO) – my life has been crazy, too much going on. Thankfully I am leaving town for 8 days (all pleasure, no business) & will have some time to breathe. Regarding my experience with the first set of Battle Rounds, I have to agree that it did seem staged i.e. Blake was definitely going to go with RaeLynn no matter how well the other singer did (sadly, I can’t remember her name now). I think I commented on the first thread that I was sad that the singer who lost to Jesse Campbell got thrown off because I really really liked him (his name was Anthony Evans Jr., I’m not going to forget that name). Maybe they (the Powers that Be) will rethink the format of the Battle Rounds if they get enough negative feedback. Time will tell. Hello everyone & happy almost spring!!

I am frustrated after last night’s show. I didn’t even bother to recap the duets with all the names and figuring out who was who. It felt very staged to me. I did not like that at all.
How can someone pair a rock singer with a country singer and have them sing a rock song? The outcome was a foregone conclusion. Then they had this very young girl paired with this woman who is fifty. It was experience versus youth. I didn’t think it worked at all. The older woman had a rich, powerful voice and the younger girl really did her best but couldn’t compete with it.
That Nirvana duet was weird. It was also an obvious mismatch.
Sorry, but they stacked the deck and I don’t like seeing some of these young people go into a no-win situation.
I will stick with the show for now, but last night was a disappointment.
