The real top 4 should’ve been Melanie, Rachel, Drew, and Josh!!

That is sort of what I envisioned. But my mind kept changing every week. The singers were much better in the second half of the show tonight. I was impressed with Chris. And Josh.

i haven’t watched the show yet, interesting that you were impressed with chris and josh, wow.
i recorded ‘live with kelly’ (minus regis) yesterday. rachel was on (i’m sure it is online somewhere). they said it was her talk show debut. she talked about wanting to be bigger than justin bieber. it turned me off because again it was this thing that bothers me about our latest social phenomenon..she didn’t mention she loved singing, it sounded like being famous was the goal.

Bee-I should have clarified. I loved Chris’ 2nd song choice. He needs work, but is on the right track with this number. Huge improvement over the past few weeks.
Josh was excellent. He just embraces the stage and his audience.
Loved Melanie’s songs but Hero, while is started strong, ended weak. It was a strange, depressing arrangement.
Her second song, although I am sick to death of it, was a testament to her superior vocals. Brilliant.
That being said I have no favorites and that is strange for me. I keep flip-flopping every week. Strange.

bee . . . I also recorded the Kelly show because I wanted to see the interview with Rachel. I know she’s only a 14-year-old kid, but she disappointed me. I was turned off by her comments about wanting to be “big” like Justin Bieber big. I thought that was obnoxious and I never had that impression of her before. I think she needs some guidance before she does more interviews.

Louise and Bee-that is a huge turn-off. All Simon’s girls seem diva-ish, don’t you think? Maybe they are just echoing Simon’s words/desires.

louise, yes you’re saying how i felt. i really loved her until i saw the kelly interview. and mcl, i did think about, ‘did someone say to her, you can be bigger than justin bieber’ and that’s why she was echoing it. i don’t know. i read something about what ellen degeneres had said somewhere: one of the things that bothered her about judging idol was seeing a number of the idols becoming diva-ish, i.e., not being grateful to people (fans?) etc.(‘too big for their britches’ was a saying i grew up hearing and that would fit here). i think that is where being a little more mature helps a lot. actually justin bieber, since i’m speaking about him, do es seem to have that genuine quality about him.

Bieber’s roots are from my neck of the woods. He was spotted wandering all over town last summer, sweet as could be. I think I spotted his trailer at some point, or else it belonged to another star, maybe Shania? Who knows? Too funny.

I hope you’re right, bee, because I enjoy watching America’s Got Talent in the summer, but I am NOT a fan of Howard Stern. I find it hugely disappointing that he is going to be on this show.

I have no use for Howard Stern, but I don’t watch AGT very often anyway. More free time.
I read that Drew will get to sing briefly with the Bieb on the season finale of X. I know she will be thrilled.
Will they be able to get Marcus to go home tonight?

I’m so happy X-Factor is almost over. What a crazy show this has been! There certainly is alot of great talent in the final three, though. While Chris doesn’t possess the great vocal skills of Melanie and Josh, he’s the most original, and I really enjoyed his performance this week. I agree with you Rosanne about Melanie’s take on Hero. The arrangement was rather odd. I really love this song, but I’m tired of people covering it. She sounded spectacular singing Feeling Good, but again, it’s been covered so many times. I’m very disappointed about hearing the confirmation that Howard Stern is going to be a AGT judge.
I don’t quite know what to make of Justin Beiber. Some say he’s sweet as can be, but I’ve listened to his recording of “Little Drummer Boy”. Some of the lyrics were rewritten, and I find them completely repulsive. I just don’t get why girls and adults act like he’s such a great talent. He really isn’t a good singer. I breaks my heart that he keeps raking in millions and millions, and gets all this publicity, spoils the song Little Drummer Boy, when David A. gets so overlooked. I’m just sick of it. Justin should have attended David Christmas concert at the Nokia the other night. He was right nxt door, rehearding with the great Stvie Wonder, for next week’s X-Factor. David could give him a few pointers on how to sing.

Anita – was David at the Nokia? That’s pretty huge.
Unfortunately, David’s impeccable talent is not considered cool enough by today’s audience. It sickens me, it really does. The world really has a warped sense of what is truly excellent in the music industry. Very, very sad.
I have to listen to Bieb’s Drummer Boy. Just goes to show that these artists have no idea or little respect for the original context of the lyrics.

Rosanne,
Good Morning! David performed at Club Nokia which is right next to the Nokia Theater. That’s still a big deal to me, even though a smaller venue. I’m glad David is cool enough for us, Rosanne. He sure knows how to put on an amazing show.

Oh I see! Thanks for clarifying the Nokia issue. Still exciting news. I love being uncool. Warms the heart and soul, so to speak!! 🙂

Rosanne,
I’m just loving watching videos from David’s concerts! I got to watch a Live UStream of his concert in Ventura, CA last night. What a treat! That was the next best thing to actually being there. Brooke White was there last night and tweeted that David is a star! Did you hear Brooke’s big news? She’s expecting a baby girl! I’m so happy for her. She’s such a sweetheart!!
What did you think of Josh’s cover of Hallelujah? Without fail, everytime someone sings this song, I think of Jason Castro’s version of it. Jason was incredible, and I believe it was one of the best performances on the Idol stage. I have to hand it to Josh, I thought he also did an incredible job. The difference is that Jason gave the song a little softer touch, which was so beautiful. I remember when Simon chose Hallelujah for Lee Dewyze to sing. I thought he was overpraised for it for sure. I don’t think it could hold a candle to Jason’s version!

Vonnie,
I was hoping you’d show up! Of course I thought of you as I mentioned about Jason. Yes, Jason’s Hallelujah is a tough one to beat! I noticed Rosanne has a wonderful post above about David Cook. I agree with her. It’s a shame DC, as well as DA, and Jason are not much more popular than they are! Three terrific guys who ooze of talent. Where the heck has people’s taste gone to? Do you have Jason’s Christian album? I have never gotten that one. I really need to check it out. I’ve got the one he released prior, and I think it’s terrific!

Hi Anita,
You know I love my Jason Castro, LOL…I don’t have Jason’s Christian CD, but my son does, so I get to hear it alot, and my local Christian radio station plays him alot, so I get to hear him pretty often! Out where I live it is hard to get the Chrisitan station, but I will be moving in the early part of Spring so I will be closer to where they broadcast from so I should then be able to get that station at our new house!
You are so right about people’s musical taste or the lack thereof…I know with Jason he chose a different route (which I am happy that he did) but as far as Cookie and DA…I really don’t know what happened! I thought the tweens would eat David A. up…and really thought that the current style of music would eat up Cookie!!!
I keep waiting for that person who can make a difference in the way and style of todays music; I thought Adam could have been that person, but I think he chose his path and is more interested in being an advocate than a musician (sorry Adam fans) I am a huge Adam fan, but not a happy Adam fan!!!
I find myself comparing all “Over The Rainbow’s” to Jason’s too!!! I loved when he sang that song!!! I really think Simon loved Jason, and was somewhat stumped over Jason’s seemingly not caring personality…just think Simon has never associated with someone with a laid back, sweet personality before, he didn’t know what to make of him!!!
Hope You Have a very Merry Christmas Anita!!! 🙂

Vonnie,
I’ll have to check out my local Christian music station more often. That was what I would listen to most of the time years ago. Now I find I really don’t even listen to the radio all that much, but my IPod and CD’s instead. I find mainstream radio a bit discouraging. I’m happy that your son has Jason’s Christian album. You must be a proud mom, lol! You have a very Merry Christmas as well, Vonnie! Two of my nephews are here from Florida, so I plan on having a great Holiday season!

Same here…I don’t do alot of listening to mainstream music any more, music has really gone by the wayside; I sound like my parents saying that!!! 🙂 But it is so true, there just isn’t any artist that I want to turn the radio on for…well, I would like to hear alot more from Scotty, but am not to excited about country music as a whole either…I do have Scotty’s new CD on my Christmas list!!!
Have fun with your nephews!!! Our weather has been to warm for snow, but they are calling for a slight chance on Christmas Eve!!! The East Coast is having a warm winter so far, I would love to have a White Christmas, and then it can go back to being warm, LOL!!
