About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

Just wanted to pass something on to you that I read on FOD.com re Pandora’s Unforgettable Holiday Memories on Ice. You mentioned one of your faves “Robin Cousins” skating to David’s Pat-a-Pan. It wasn’t Robin Cousins, it was Steven Cousins. Just thought I’d mention it in case Steven Cousins happens to read it and decides to correct you. Better to be prepared than not. Loved your comments on the entire show. I also agree with your top 5 of X Factor. If Chris R makes it, I would think he’d replace Astro in your top 5. I don’t share the enthusiasm of most people for Drew’s style, but love love love the other two of Simon’s girls. I think the final 2 will be Josh and Melanie and I’d be a happy camper if either of them won the whole thing.

Random thoughts on tonite’s show:
The Jackson kids did not seem thrilled to be there. “Ah, Grandma, do we really have to go to that show?” “Yes, I promised Simon we would all be there. He made a nice contribution to our charity foundation.”
I thought host Steve Jones might improve after a few week of experience. Not be so stiff, loosen up, get more comfortable. I was wrong.
I find it amusingly odd that the judges are introduced in such a grand fashion each week, as if they are the true stars of the show. Are Olympic judges treated like this? Are Supreme Court judges treated like this? Since when does being a judge make you deserving of a glittering entrance befitting a crowned head of state?
Josh — the loud music and poor sound mix made his voice seem muffled and hard to hear. He was back in hard rock mode that I don’t really enjoy.
Astro — He’s very talented but I’m frustrated at not being able to understand his lyrics. I can only catch a few words here and there.
Drew — her “sing-talk” performance style reminds me of the British singer Ellie Goulding. The ongoing British version of X Factor had a 16-year-old girl who sang in a similar style and was just voted off last week. It’s a style I associate with mature singers who are past their vocal prime. It’s quite striking to see a very young girl adopt it as her signature style. I enjoyed her vocal tonite, but she has a way of making all her songs sound alike.
Rachel — the ultimate example of a spunky young girl you can’t help liking. But I’m not seeing a pop star.
Marcus — suffers from the same problem almost every week — his vocals start out strong but become progressively weaker as his movements become more energetic.
Chris — The best vocal performance I’ve seem from him, although still not great. I always seem to enjoy his performances despite the numerous vocal flaws.
Melanie — Almost a repeat of last week: another big song, another great vocal.
I agree with MCL that Marcus and Chris are probably in the most jeopardy. But I would not be totally surprised to see Astro or Rachel in the bottom group.
I think Astro may be facing the same issue that Adam Lambert faced: most of the people who like his style of music are not the kind of people who watch shows like this.

I am pretty much in agreement with your assessment, Malden. I do disagree about Chris’ performances. I haven’t enjoyed them. I keep wondering how Astro is still on the show, but I guess there are a lot of people who like Rap. He really messed up a great song. I don’t know how people can understand his words.
Overall tonight’s show was a disappointment, and I felt sorry for Michael’s children. They should have been at the tribute to Michael presented by Season 10 – Top 13. I have watched that video several times already. The only time I saw approval was during Rachel’s performance. How can you not like her energy and passion to entertain. Too bad Simon is sabotaging her performance with bad song selections and over-production.
Yes, I enjoyed Melanie’s performance and found Drew very interesting. I didn’t think the song was good on Josh’s song. I guess I expected more from the contestants. Those lights and dancers are distracting. I can’t wait to hear their tribute tonight.

And I was wondering why oh why these judges have to make such a grand entrance to that overplayed music from Carmina Burana? It is so “over-the-top” and nobody cares.

malden, i did think about your original comments about drew being the eventual winner, while she was eliminated last night. is that what you are referring to here? wow, simon seemed genuinely very angry, that was very interesting and seemed unscripted.

i watched the performance show and the results show last night. on idol, even tho it may have a lot of filler i don’t fast forward. i fast forwarded through so much yesterday. the only performances i didn’t fast forward through were drew’s and chris’s. i actually liked drew’s performance the best. i did think of mcl’s comments during some of her idol critiques about people needing to at least move a few steps back and forth or SOMETHING as she kept sitting on that chair. interesting that she was MADE to do that by simon.
i thought about how even the intro’s to these people are loud and over the top. i thought, the show acts like they are already stars, that’s why i haven’t gotten emotionally connected to them.
