And, what a listen is was – and is – as you will soon see in the video below.

This 18-year-old sweetheart of a girl with the powerhouse voice may just be the frontrunner in the inaugural season of The X Factor USA.

Quite frankly, I have never heard anything quite like this in any audition in any show. This young lady is superbly gifted and trained. She has an extraordinary vocal gift but beneath it all is a skilled vocal support system.

Watch Melanie Amaro’s performance below and note the seamless phrasing, breathing skills and circular mouth on her impeccably sustained vowels. It does not get any better than this.

When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. 1. I watched part of the show last night but I missed her. I shall share this with Glo.

  2. She was absolutely wonderful!!! I was recording it, so I went back and listened to her again. Loved her!!! I also really liked that she didn’t seem full of herself. Before she sang, Simon asked her if she was any good. She responded by saying that she would let him decide that.

  3. Melanie was outstanding. I was fortunate enough to change the channel during a commercial break in the show I was watching just in time to see her. With all of the unbearable junk they aired the first night I wasn’t convinced that she was a serious auditioner until she opened her mouth to sing Literally, before she finished the first word, I said to my wife “oh yeah, she’s good.” She has a very nice tone to her voice that was apparent on the very first note. She seemed like a very humble young woman with a wonderful gift and talent. She should do very well.

I also saw a few seconds of Caitlin Koch’s audition and decided to check it out on You Tube this morning. She had a warm, bluesy quality to her voice and brought a unique take to the old Supremes classic “Stop in the Name of Love.” Very listenable. She tried out for Idol last year and made it to Hollywood.

I hope the show gets way better than what I suffered through the first night. My five minutes were well invested the second night though. So far, they have taken the very worst aspects of the Idol formula, multiplied times two, and sprinkled a few decent singers in to keep you from nodding off.

  5. Perfect answer, Louise. And yet she sounded so sincere and do professional. She will advance very far in the competition and may take the whole thing! We shall see what emerges.

  6. Gene – I did love Caitlin as well. Really creative and passionate singer. But Melanie had that “wow” factor going for her. Still early, though. We shall see what happens.

  7. Oh and always remember – they save their best surprises for Prime Time – 9:00. Always good to tune in then or shortly before.

  8. Melanie had THE PERFORMANCE of the last 2 nights, that’s for sure!! The X-Factor has been very much a disappointment for me so far, but Melanie came and saved the day. I’m looking very forward to hearing more from her as this carzy show goes on. What a phenomenal voice she has!!

  9. Well…While nothing else was on last night I did flip the channel over to X-Factor; yes I am a glutten for punishment.

I did get to see this young lady that MCL highlighted in video…she was breathtaking!

Now a couple of the others, namely Mister I sold my truck to get here; what was he thinking or not thinking?!?!?!?!?!?

I dunno, still greatly on the fence about this show! Like Gene said they took all of the bad of idol and exemlpified this show to such a degree that now idol looks like a brilliant master collaboration of how to get ratings!!!

  10. Vonnie,

How’s my friend Vonnie, doing? American Idol, is starting to look better and better to me. It’s kind of funny, because some of us were getting irritated with how things were going on that show, that we were really looking forward to X-Factor. Now, the tables have kind of turned. But it’s only the second show, so we’ll see.

  11. Vonnie,

You can listen to snippets of the songs from Scotty’s new album on I-Tunes if you didn’t know. Both he and Lauren have reviewed each song from their albums on MJ’s Big Blog. I thought you would like to check those out!!!

  12. Hi Anita,

I am doing well, thank you so much for asking!!! 🙂

Yep! Idol looks really good to me right now! Especially after 2 nights of X-Factor and some of the other singing shows!

I didn’t know that about Scotty’s “song Snippets”, that you for the heads up, I shall go check that out!

How are you doing? Have you had a great summer?

  13. I had a wonderful summer, and had family here from out of state for most of it! I’m in the middle of looking for a new job right now, so that has been rather stressful, but I keep praying that something just right comes my way.

  17. I think Melanie is a terrific singer, however there haven’t been that many good singers on this show. Simon needs to change X-Factor to show less bad auditions and more good ones. So far, the show has been rather boring.

Good luck Anita, in finding a new job!

  19. Hi everyone. I think Melanie is absolutely wonderful. But did anyone else cringe just a little bit at Nicole’s comment “This is why I do this” (sob!!). She’s been doing this for…what…a month? I can tell you now, Sharon Osborne wouldn’t be dabbing tears from her eyes. She’d be impressed & happy but no tears.

On that note, I’m a little tired out from AGT so I think I’m going to follow X-Factor with great interest but not watch it every night.

Good luck with your job search, Anita!!

And as an AGT aside, every time I listen to Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., or have someone else listen to him, I like him even more. I am SO glad he won AGT.

    Hugs to everyone.

  20. Nice to see you back here, Darlene. I don’t like all the tears but I chalk it up to fatigue. Haha

And I hope Landau becomes more visible in the media. I thought that he would definitely be on the TV circuit by now. I was hoping Jay Leno would feature him since The Tonight Show is aired on NBC. Very strange.
