Tonight is the night. During this evening’s 2-hour episode of The Voice, airing on NBC at 9:00 Eastern, the remaining sixteen singers will perform live for the very first time in an effort to garner viewer votes.
Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter stated:
“The Voice’s Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will open their first live show Tuesday with a medley of Queen Songs. The four coaches will perform “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.” Their last collaboration came on the breakout show’s premiere episode, when they performed “Crazy.”
Now, that’s what I call entertainment. And we will be all geared up and energized after watching NBC’s, America’s Got Talent leading into The Voice at 8:00 P.M.
Yes, oh yes, Tuesday is definitely “must see TV night” for me.

MCL…I thought Blake’s team was much better than Christina’s! I really liked Dia and Xenia (?) and the guy with the head band; the country guy, eh! not so much!
Dia just standing there didn’t have alot of personality, but while performing she really came out of her shell. I really like her performance and her voice!
Frenchie was the only one from Christina’s team that I liked!
Blake is gonna have a hard time next choosing who else to send home!

I was entertained very well by the Voice last night. I really enjoy seeing the mentoring sessions between the captains and their team of contestants. Christina really puts a lot of herself into the mentoring process. It seems to me that the stars are taking quite a risk with this high degree of exposure. I liked the fact that they choose songs other than their own for the team group numbers as well as the opening number with the stars singing together instead of promoting their latest work.
My favorite performances of the night were Dia Frampton and Raquel Castro, in that order. So far, the show’s format has failed to draw me into the contestants in a personal way like Idol seems to do, so I had no previous interest in either of them. Oh no; does that mean the endless auditions, back stories and pimping are a necessary evil? I hope not.
Dia seems to be the artist in the group and Raquel was a very impressive little performer for her age. Even her facial expressions were spot on. My bet is that these two girls plus the cowboy, whose name I don’t know, and maybe Frenchy will survive the cut.
I could use less of the trash talk between the team captains, but I liked the approach they are taking with their comments. If you are going to be cheerleaders, cheer for all of them. That seems to be the approach so far.
The voting system is interesting and is similar to one being used now by a program called “Next Superstar” that will have its finally next Friday. This show is produced by Nigel and his son Simon. They also allow a full week for voting but only use online voting and texting with a daily limit of ten votes of each type per day. I think the week long voting may be a good substitute for unlimited voting to measure the passion the voter has for the contestant, rather than just which one they like the most. I have said before that I believe that is why Idol holds onto the current voting system, so it is encouraging that Nigel is experimenting with something new on one of his shows that might be a prototype for future Idol voting.

I so enjoyed this show, such fun. And wow – judges who get up there and do it themselves – fantastic. I did prefer crazy to the queen medley tonight – but it shows they are not afraid to stretch themselves. Blake doing Queen was very funny – he did look uncomfortable but he went for it.
I do agree that you are not at this point really drawn into the back story, but this does allow you to just concentrate on whether you like the performance rather than do you like the person – which goes with the idea of the voice. My faves are in the other half – but here I liked Dia and Patrick the best.
Coaches – agreed they are cheer-leading – but at least to all – mind you they are coaches and not judges.. I was afraid it might be like x-factor where they trash each others teams and song choices – this is much better. There were one or two really constructive comments – but I guess they are mostly keeping it for the behind the scenes coaching.
Only negative, Christina has an odd (forced?) sense of humour – and it’s not coming across well with the 3 boys who are very funny and seem to have a great bond.
I think it will never pull the same audience/votes that American Idol does – because it is not aiming for headlines/being controversial etc however it was very refreshing and enjoyable to watch and I will be back.
Anyone know what the rules are – I think I missed this – who goes 1 from each team or bottom 2?

Hello. Just wanted to stop in quick & say hi. I did TiVO the Voice (was it last night?? – my brain feels so full). Anyway, will have comments once I get a chance to watch it. We are the thick of our yearly arts festival Spoleto USA (www.spoletousa.org) & its companion festival Piccolo Spoleto (www.piccolospoleto.com). I love this time of year – so many great things to see (opera, theater, dance, musical theater) but I am TIRED when it finally ends. It started on 5/27 & ends on Sunday (6/12). I got to see “The Medium” (Giancarlo Menotti – wonderufl production), “Emilie” a new one-woman opera with Elizabeth Futral (she was FABULOUS), the amazing Bela Fleck with the original Flecktone lineup, an astonishing Brazilian accordionist (accordion is my first instrument) named Toninho Ferragutti, a pianist from Finland, the awesome choral group Antioch from the New York area. I could go one but I’ll stop there. It’s a blur.
On the not so great side, my singing teacher, Sam, was hospitalized on Sunday with a serious problem that required surgery but he is recovering well. But he will most likely be out of commission for a while :(.
Anyway, bottom line as it pertains to this post is: I will be watching the Voice. And I will also try to start catching America’s Got Talent. I forgot to set my TiVO for that last night. But there’s always next week.

Thanks, Gene. It was an absolutely great show. The original keyboardist, Howard Levy, who left the Flectones in 1992, is back & has released along with Bela, Victor (Wooten) & Futureman, a new CD, “Rocket Science”. This was, I believe, the 3rd or maybe even the 4th time I have seen Bela but the 1st with the original line-up. It was an incredible treat.
And thanks for the your prayers for Sam. They are very much appreciated.

The only singer who captured me last night was Dia, followed by Raquel. The rest not so much. I hope to write a recap but I am a little busy right now. June is like December – something going on constantly.

What’s interesting about using the itunes vote – is they are allowing the songs to be seen on the itunes chart.
Right now Dia is at 17 and Xenia at 45.

I’m a little surprised at Patrick’s poor showing. I’m not a fan but I thought he might be buoyed by the country wave that hit Idol this season. I thought he and Frenchie sang well enough to survive the cut but I’m equally surprised at her good showing on the iTunes chart.
Dia has quite a few recordings available on iTunes or on her My Space page. Her recordings are with her sister as a band formed in 2004 known as Meg & Dia or the Meg & Dia Band. They have recorded three albums on two different labels. The last label they were with was a Warner Brothers affiliate, Sire records. The first and last albums are independent efforts and they are currently unsigned. She also has a significant presence on You Tube, both as Dia Frampton and as Meg & Dia.
I didn’t see the Voice battle round episode when Dia sang “Bubbly” but I listened to it on the iTunes preview and I thought it was very good.
Here’s a thought; maybe her next album could be called “Frampton Comes Alive.”
Be sure to check out Slezak’s interviews with both Lauren (from last week) and Scotty if you haven’t seen them already. I found both of them to be interesting and, as usually is the case with his interviews, revealed a different side of each of them than what we had seen during their tenure on the show.

Hello everyone. Just watched “The Voice” from Tuesday night. I appreciate everyone’s comments. I’m not sure I came away with an absolute clear favorite from this one. But I agree that Dia may be the one to watch. Her rendition of “Heartless” was exactly what Adam Levine said it was “refreshing and unique”. She really worked the song. I actually liked Jared a lot too. Maybe I was seeing a little James in him?? He just looked like he was having a great time up there. If there was a bit of a weakness in the performance it was, in my opinion, the song itself; it’s got a very restricted range. If he’s still here in the next round, it’ll be interesting to see what he can do.
I think Frenchie has a big voice & she gave a skilled, comfortable performance. But there were some real pitch issues in there. It happened in the “When Love Takes Over Yeh-a-yeh” at the beginning of the song & it happened twice. That last “yeh” just wasn’t there. I think it may be that in that particular phrase/part of her voice she begins to yell more than sing. To me she doesn’t seem like the kind of singer who should go flat. I just listened to the performance a second time & in the later part of the song the problem was less noticeable.
Raquel also has a great big voice. But for me all the strutting took away from her voice & I didn’t think the song was very challenging. I enjoyed Beverly but the voice has a LOT of growl – it works in Melissa Etheridge to some extent. The last night showed that there’s more in that voice than we saw tonight. I think Xenia has an interesting voice but I think she wasn’t breathing so her voice was extremely muffled during her solo plus the movements were so stiff. The duet was better. Lilly, for me, was just OK. Ditto Patrick Thomas.
Overall comments: It’s a pleasure to see older performers. People like Jared, Frenchie & Beverly just seem so at home in their own skins. Also, the judges as a whole were pretty generous with the compliments. Only Lilly got any kind of anything approaching constructive criticism.
So we’ll see what happens from here.
Also update on my singing teacher, Sam: I saw him today, he’s doing amazingly well. Thanks for all your thoughts & prayers.
