Apparently, when an American Idol finalist is eliminated, his original contestant number is permanently retired. Isn’t that the coolest?

Casey Abrams left the show last evening in his customary style and magnetic presence.

Say what you want about Casey, but the man sure knew how to entertain and capture the audience.

Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8. In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright. In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins. Under Rosanne Simunovic’s direction, the Timmins Youth Singers and the Timmins Concert Singers have been featured in numerous choral festivals and performing opportunities outside of Timmins.     That is soooo cool they retire the contestant’s numbers!!! I’m definately going to miss Casey so much! He brought artistry, tons of stage presence, charisma, fun, energy, musicality, etc. It makes me sad that he chose to perform the way he did Wednesday night. To me he sounded awful, and a could barely stand to listen to him, which had never been the case for me before. I have to say though, at the very beginning of the song, Casey really had my attention. He voice sounded great to me, and he played a little ditty on the piano, and he started off very classy. then, it went to heck from there!!! I hope and pray that Casey redeems himself starting a very successful career!! He seems like a wonderful young man!

    I read something on line where someone speculated that perhaps Casey purposely tried to be the one voted off so that Haley could stay at least another week since he seems to be completely smitten with her. Interesting possibility. It might explain why he ignored Jennifer’s advice when he was saved and went back to the growling, etc. this week. He seemed so resigned that he was being voted off, and so accepting. If there’s any truth to that, it would probably be the first time in the history of the show that someone did that.

    Louise-this is a remarkable story. Incredibly inspiring. James has overcome tremendous obstacles to reach this point in his life – a Top 5 Finalist on American Idol. Everyone should be rooting for this young man.

    God Bless those wonderful people in his life who believed in and nurtured him.

    Those links are amazing! Reading about James and all that he has overcome to get where he is, was quite moving. He was very lucky to have people around him who cared so much and saw the talent early on and helped him to realize it. His mother sounds like an extraordinary woman.

    I have even more respect and admiration of this young man!

    Yes, I agree and found the background story of James to be really inspiring. Watching him on Idol, I never realized all of the trials he has been through in his life. He is a very remarkable young man!

    Except for the disappointing shows last week, I am happy about the final five now and look forward to the tour and next Wednesday as all have a chance to shine by performing two numbers this week.
    Here is who I am watching:
    Top Shelf – James, Haley – Getting better and better all the time — win or lose — they should be good on tour.
    Good – Lauren, Scotty – need aging and seasoning – Both need to ‘bring it’ this week.
    Raw, Acquired Taste – Jacob – Needs to tone it down to show a professional, controlled, tender, and sincere side or he will be out this week.
