It’s January and everyone in the Idol bubble knows what that means!  Another American Idol showdown is in the works.  

American Idol  Season 10 premieres on  Wednesday, January 19th on Fox from 8:00 P.M. -10:00 PM ET/PT and will feature preliminary auditions from  New York / New Jersey.

The following night (January 20th) from 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX,  the auditions continue in New Orleans.

The complete American Idol schedule is available at the AmericanIdol.Com website and, that, in itself, is an improvement. I always had a difficult time trying to find the show’s schedule on the main site but this one came jumping out at me.  It’s going to be a good year!

Having watched host Ryan Seacrest, returning judge Randy Jackson and newly appointed judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler on Jay Leno the other night,  the chemistry between these four artists looked comfortable and real. It seems to work.

I also like the idea of  a veritable rocker in the form of Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler on the panel.  I am sure his presence will augment the ratings, as people who never watched American Idol before may want to tune in to see what he has to say.   Indeed, he mentioned on Jay Leno that he has never watched American Idol and, somehow, I think that is a very good thing. He won’t subconsciously transform into a Simon Cowell.

And speaking of Simon, I think it is important to allow Jennifer and Steven to re-invent the wheel with Randy Jackson. Simon has moved on and so should we. I know I have, although I am looking forward to his X-Factor show  when it airs in September 2011.

So, as  have said many times before, let the Idol games begin! I feel excitement in the air! Do you or is it just a good day for me?  Time will certainly tell.

Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8. In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright. In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins. Under Rosanne Simunovic’s direction, the Timmins Youth Singers and the Timmins Concert Singers have been featured in numerous choral festivals and performing opportunities outside of Timmins.     I’m excited – and after swearing I’d never watch Idol again (following the negative/disrepsectful treatment of the Idol S8 contestants) – that’s saying a lot.

    I love that SYTYCD is “all about the kids”, and how the judges critiques deliver specific information that the contestants can use to improve future performances. The interviews Nigel has given indicate he’s trying to move in the same direction with Idol. I’m also excited to hear (in interviews) that this year’s finalists want to win – not just “have fun up there”. Bravo!

    Now if only we could eliminate the “awkward factor” by bringing Cat Deeley over to replace Ryan. Clearly that’s not going to happen, but having someone who really cares about the contestants and who won’t put them in awkward situations (or throw them under a bus) would make the show much more enjoyable to watch. I love Ryan – he’s a great guy, but he’s not “safe” with a mic when he’s with the contestants, their parents – or the judges. (just my opinion).

    I’m actually pretty excited about this season too. I read that the judges are going to be less snarky and more supportive of the contestants. I like the snarky from past seasons, but the judges have to be who they are and not try to clone Cowell. Its going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. I’m sure I’ll have more than few posts about the contestants this season. Can’t wait!

    MCL…I too am looking forward to a new season of idol and a new panel of judges and I hope also that they do not try and mirror Simon.

    Jennifer is a lovely young lady and I think she has alot to offer, Steven…well, I think he will bring a quirky side to the table, but it should be fun. Randy, I assume will take the part of the “head judge” in a sense, he will be the one who will have to step up to the plate and really make some wise judging decisions as to how he will converse with the contestants…please Randy, leave the dawg thing out this year!

    Also…isn’t X-Factor supposed to start this fall – 2011, I thought that I had read that somewhere!!!
