American Idol Season 7 singer, the very talented Jason Castro, stopped by the Ellen Show  today to perform his single, “That’s What I’m Here For” from his new debut album.

As always, Jason sang from his heart in the customary laidback style that we have all come to know and love.

He may not be the most technically perfect singer , but what he lacks in technical finesse,  he makes up in his openly communicative performing style.

Jason performs with  honesty and enormous respect for the emotional core within his lyrics.

And he exudes an enormous charisma and presence on stage that is hard to beat. I am so happy that he is living his dream and I can only envision continued success for this talented young artist.

Congratulations, Jason! Now, drop that jaw!

  2. Your last comment makes me laugh because every time I see Jason perform (and I’ve seen him live a few times because he comes to my city on every tour) I think the same thing! If only he’d drop his jaw, his sound would be so much better and he wouldn’t be straining to reach notes. He’s a great song writer but I worry that he will not be able to preserve his voice with the technique (or lack of proper technique) he uses.

  3. Thanks, MCL! I really love this album–and “That’s What I’m Here For” is my favorite song off it. We don’t see/hear enough songs about friendship and support.

(And I sure hope he pays attention to you, LOL!)

  4. I’m not clicking to watch yet cuz Ellen does not come on in my neck of the woods until this afternoon at 4. Somehow I wanna see it on tv but I am very excited about it. Jason and his music has filled my life in the past two and a half years with happiness, excitement and simply “life”. I don’t think I am able to go through a long year of being away from my husband deployed to Africa without Jason and his music. I too am very happy that he is living his dream. He is hard working and very deserving of everything and where he is right now as a talented artist, singer/songwriter. His voice soothes my soul and even with the absense of technique, he is still very effective. He touches you to the core. Thanks for your wonderful review.

  5. I love That’s What I’m Here For, and was thrilled to see him sing it on The Ellen Show.
I agree with the above, we need more songs about “friendship and support”.

Your review of Jason’s performance is spot on!

Also, agree with you, and hope he “pays attention” to singing technique.

  6. Jason sings from his heart to mine and so few artists can move me the way Jason does.

What Jason lacks in technical prowness, he more than makes up with his unique phrasing and deep connection to the meaning and lyrics of the song. All the runs in the world can not touch the soul the way Jason’s little catches and phrasing does.
