David Archuleta’s Performance Of Imagine On American Idol Season 9 Top 9 Results Show

Vocal prodigy, David Archuleta, made another triumphant return to the American Idol stage during Season 9’s Top 9 Results Show on April 7th.

Seated quietly at the piano, he performed another inspiring version of John Lennon’s “Imagine”, once again reminding all of us that he is a force to be reckoned with.  The sophistication and poise he brings to this performance is pretty amazing.  How he is able to pack so much into one song and yet make it sound flawless and effortless is beyond me. He is truly a rare and precious gem in the musical world.

And yet, not only is this genuine young man supremely talented, but also  he is a kind and gentle human being who is extremely humbled and thankful for the prodigious musical gift bestowed on him at birth.

He is so approachable and so gracious to everyone – is it any wonder that he is collecting more and more fans with each passing day?

  2. I loved this performance. (Loved his first two performances of Imagine, too.) This was a refined, mature version, but as beautiful as the others.

David caught hold of me right at the start of season 7 of Idol, and if anything, I’m more a fan now because I know that he is a great person, too.

What a night! Thanks for posting the video, MCL.

  6. MCL Thank You for posting this. David is so amazing to watch. I love that he doesn’t need all the smoke and mirrors that other performers use. I have seen him live quite a few times and can’t seem to get enough. I am going to see him on Friday at the Blaze game. Can’t wait!!

  8. Thank you so much for the wonderful review of David’s performance. YOU truly GET DAVID. He doesn’t need flashing lights, dancers,or fire coming from behind him. All he needs is to open his mouth and have that wonderful voice. Playing the piano was an extra. You are also correct in how humble and thankful he is. He does not even promote himself. No mention of his book coming out.He is just not pushy. He is just the sweetest and most wonderful person. THANK YOU for being a friend to him.

  15. David reminds us that it is not about smoke, mirrors, dancing girls and glitz. It’s about the MUSIC. Most singers would crash and burn in such an exposed setting. Congrats and thanks David!

  16. MCL, When the performance first aired in the EDT zone all 3 guest performers trended on Twitter, within the hour the other two had dropped off, never to reappear. As the show aired in different time zones across the country, David continued to trend, it was kinda fun watching his name rise and fall on the top 10 World Wide Trending Topics as the show aired in different time zones. As of this writing, an hour after the PDT showing, he’s still holding the #1 named person spot and the #6 spot of trending topics!!!

  17. MCL,

Yes, indeed, our David Archuleta did make a triumphant return to Idol. When he sang “Imagine” on season 7 in the semifinals, that was the very first time I saw him. It changed my life. I knew after that performance that I was definitely going to stick around for another Idol season to see this extraordinarily gifted young man. He has given me so much inspiration through the beauty and soaring spirit of his singing. He will always be in my heart.

Watching him tonight, I was reminded of what Neil Diamond said about David when he was guest mentoring during that season. He heard him and declared that he was a prodigy. From one legend to a future legend. Truer words were never spoken. Many doubted David Archuleta. Many didn’t really hear him. Many didn’t or couldn’t acknowledge his greatness. But hearing him tonight, the nation got a chance to once again see the magic that only this young man can conjure up. It’s like lightning in a bottle. Hold on to it, hold on fast and hard, because you may never see anything like it again.

  18. I was a Dreadhead on Season 7, but just loved David Cook and David Archuleta. What a great season that was!

Seeing David perform tonight made me want to just hug him to pieces. How proud he can be of his accomplishemnts. I just loved his excitement and humbleness. MCL, you expressed my feelings so eloquently.

David reminds us that it is not about smoke, mirrors, dancing girls and glitz. It’s about the MUSIC.

Isn’t that the truth, Julie? Forget the guest stars promoting their latest album. I want more of the former Idols to come on the show!

  20. Thanks MCL, always great to hear your opinion of a performance. It was magical, wasn’t it. I’m always nervous anytime David’s near that Idol stage, and he added the piano and still delivered a powerful vocal. Did you catch the deck shoes and absence of socks? Doubt we’ll ever get flip flops!

He is just divine, so special…. (looking at Ellen’s face, she was clearly touched.) David, “Imagine”, and the piano.Magic……The band did a nice job too, however all that he really needs is a microphone in his hand, and let him go!! Just beautiful!!

  28. Rosanne, thank you for your wonderful review! You were way out in front of the pack the year David performed on American Idol. Sure, there were those who would admit he could sing, but few were willing to recognize his stunning accomplishments and greatness at such a young age. I just finished doing some web searches, and found page after page of articles written by authors who now acknowledge — however begrudgingly — David’s vocal mastery. Since they are not as well schooled in music as you, it just took them a bit longer to come to the obvious and proper conclusion. Better late than never!

  31. Season 7 had amazing talent which just cannot seem to be duplicated. What a beautiful season that was. WEe looked forward each week with anticipation of what magic we would witness each week. There were so many wonderful talented young entertainers to come from that season. The fact that two years later we are still following them and enjoy watching them emerge and flourish speaks to just how talented so many of them are. Both of the Davids, Brook, Carly, Jason, MJ, even Syesha, they all have something to give the world, and they are doing it well. It is a wonderful journey they are taking us on, may it continue for years to come.

  33. Rosanne,

Thank you so much for your wonderful review of David’s performance. I never get tired of hearing him sing Imagine, and have never loved someone’s voice as much as I do David’s! It has always made my heart break when so many people have belittled, and wrote him off as some worthless singer. It’s just apalling! That’s people for ya. I always gave the young girls credit for liking him so much. At least they have taste. I have never met David, but I know he’s got a beautful personality, and a caring spirit! Keep up the great work MCL! We appreciate you.
