David Cook Performing Permanent

David Cook Performing Permanent

American Idol Season 7 winner, David Cook , gave an outstanding  and incredibly moving performance of his song, “Permanent”, on the finale Of American Idol Season 8.

The song was performed by David as a tribute to his late brother, Adam, who died of cancer earlier this year.

I was so inspired by David’s performance. It was a sensitive, raw, yet powerful testament to Adam’s legacy and David was obviously moved by the entire experience.

And so was I!  His beautiful voice and vulnerable demeanor just touched my heart in a very special way.

It has been a year since we last saw David on the American Idol stage and he made me remember why I love this show so much.

He so fully represents the heart, the dreams, the blood, sweat and tears of all performers who came before him and those who have come after.

It is exciting to watch the metamorphosis of the singers during each American Idol season and David’s journey certainly is legendary

David was a relatively undiscovered talent before American Idol.  He came out of nowhere during the semi-final rounds and, through ingenuity and charm, catapulted himself into the Top 12, leading him on an exciting journey toward the American Idol crown.

His genuine persona coupled with his enormous musical talent created many memorable musical moments during Season 7.

Earlier this evening, I was sent a memo from a fan – Jaye-asking me to encourage people to download the correct “Permanent” performance from ITunes. Com.

Per David’s request,  the proceeds are to benefit David’s personal cancer cause, Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure; however, there are two versions on the ITunes site one to benefit cancer and one strictly for profit, so make sure you grab the correct version before you download.

I believe this is the link or you can follow Jaye’s excellent instructions:

This is not about promoting Cook. If people aren’t Cook fans, then they can delete the file after you buy it. But, a simple $.99 download can help fund research to find a cure for cancer. And as I said, if we can just get it into the Top Ten, then there’s a much better chance that downloaders will direct their money to the right source.

There are three ways that people who want to download can get to the page for the correct version of the performance.

1. On the Itunes Idol page, they finally put up a rotating banner, where a link to the performance flashes in rotation with other finale performances

2. If you scroll WAY down to the bottom of the front page, Itunes has a link to the performance  under  the “What We’re Listening To” section.

3. If you just use the search function and type in “Permanent charity”, you should be able to find it.

Please download this song and help support cancer research. We have all been touched by this horrendous disease and want to eradicate the devastating effects it causes in the lives of so many.

  1. I enjoyed Cook’s performance so much last night. When his album came out, I remember listening to Permanent and being instantly moved by it. I knew without a doubt that it would be a hit due to its poignant message. Cook’s performance last night was so genuine and you could tell that he was singing it from the very depths of his soul. I just know Adam was looking down and smiling at his brother from a place were there is no more pain and only an everlasting and “permanent” peace.

  4. Thank you, MCL and Galen. What would be even more wonderful is if everyone could go back to their fansites of whoever their favorite Idol is and spread the word to others. Specifically to encourage them to invest in this download, and once again to make sure that it’s the RIGHT one.

American Idol unfortunately spawns a lot fan warring, and I don’t want to thrust David Cook into a competitive situation with other Idols old or new. But, I can’t stress how important it is that the CHARITY PERFORMANCE make it to the top ten list on Itunes front page. Because I really believe that at least some people are just looking at the top ten list and seeing the album version of Permanent in the #7 spot, and immediately downloading, thinking their supporting the charity and their not. But, if they see two versions right in front of them on the first page, then they’ll be able to figure out which one is the right one to purchase.

David willingly wants all his proceeds from this performance to go for cancer research, and God knows that Itunes/Idol/RCA have enough money! But, there will NEVER be enough money for cancer research until a cure is found. So please, if you’re willing, spread the word wherever you can, and let’s make sure as much money as possible gets where it really needs to go.

(As an aside, it really would have been nice if Idol or Itunes would have been willing to provide a banner to advertise the benefit performance. But, nevertheless, fans are doing what we can.)

  5. Thank you Rosanne Simunovic for one of the best reviews of David Cook I have ever read. You got it right IMO. I put a link on the VH1 thread to spread the word on that board about the Itunes charity I think Idol did not do the right thing as far this Itune/ charity song. They should have posted it right away, but we are working on getting the word out to everyone.

  7. This is somewhat off topic, but I am curious about it. Here goes.

I didn’t watch AI until last season’s Top 5, but I was able to watch all the previous performances I wanted to on YouTube. I’m talking about good-quality VIDEOS of the mentor segments, live performances, and judges comments. I have even re-watched David Archuleta’s Homecoming and Journey segments that aired on AI. I watched Kelly Clarkson’s winning moment as well on YouTube.

This season, however, those types of videos are either low quality or non-existent. Why? If FOX has chosen to crack down for copyright, why this seasom and not previous seasons?

    Thoughts, anyone?

  10. I certainly hope all of the Cookie fans are going on iTunes and supporting him. You know, iTunes really needed to do a better job of promoting his charity version of “Permanent”. It is a shame it requires such an effort to find and download the correct version. I just hope the Good Lord’s hand intervenes in all of this and causes a miracle to occur.

  11. I love this song so much – especially at the time. I know someone who just lost their battle with Cancer. I found out through Facebook and it reminded me of another time I found out through Facebook that my former swim coach lost her battle with Cancer.

These past few days have been hard as it has stirred up so many memories that I thought I had gotten over. I will never forget the feeling I had when I found out about my swim coach – complete loneliness. I was away from home so I had no support, and it was such a sudden death.

Cancer is such a horrible disease – it touches us all in some form or another. I just hope a cure is found soon!

  12. I am so sorry that this song conjured up such a diffcult time in your life. It is heartbreaking to lose someone close to you and who inspired you.

But it is also a song of healing, so I hope you take comfort that, with time, the pain will lessen and the memories will bring you solace and peace.

  14. Thank you for bringing this beautiful performance to the “spotlight” so that those that did not see it can enjoy it now and react to its intentions. We have been so blessed by this young man and his caring heart. He is always willing to put his heart out there to help others. He truly is an American Idol and shows others how it should be done. I’m sure that David will have many blessings come his way in the months and years to come. He is truly a remarkable and exceptionally talented young man. He deserves greatness.
