About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

I found both “alives” a little longer and stronger and the last “oooooohoooooh” especially sweet.
Hazelnut40, The “Apologize” video is beautifully shot and the colors magnificent…a visual showcase to go along with this intense performance. Noteworthy is the extreme emotion of “tooo laaaaate” in the now well known “hunkerdown” position.
In “Angels” David once again has me at “street”. I don’t believe anyone can sing it more beautifully than he does here. And the last two “angels”? MCL, please help me, I’m at a loss for words.

I have been lurking for a while, but I’M BACK. Most of my fan time is spent at Hey! Nielsen where David is No. 1 in Music.
I have seen David three times! You might remember that I’m NOT a fan of AI. But I couldn’t resist the chance to see David live. Who knows how long before he does a solo concert!
I saw him in San Jose near my home. Last week I FLEW to Kansas City to see him twice with my sister. Here are my accounts of that if you want to post them. If not, I hope you’ll have time to read them for yourself at least.

Janey79, are you the same on Hey Nielsen? (I’m min-ja) Wow! Small world, I met another fan at the S.J. concert. It does seem like a long time ago. David has changed the songs all along the way. He is amazing. I can hardly wait to hear him in his own full concert.

David is warmly introduced by Syesha. And, for the first time in a long time – perhaps ever – you can actually hear Syesha’s introduction. The crowd is respectful and quiet and it is nice to finally hear her speak of David
However, once he ascends from the Idol catacombs and he is in clear view, the audience erupts with excitement and thunderous ovation. Oh, how they love this talented young man!
Now, I have to say that this is an excellent video –the audio is clear and the picture is pretty good. But, for me, it’s the audio that’s important.
And he starts out with the hushed intensity of the first verse and it is just beautiful. But, when he hits the refrain and allows his expressive voice to project with increased momentum and power, the audience is thoroughly overwhelmed with the beauty and presence of his voice.
Then, he moves into the second verse and I hear a little fatigue when he sings the words “ I look above and I know” – just slightly under the wire there, but, like David always does, he effortlessly moves forward with his tranquil and confident vocal delivery.
And his vocal strength becomes stronger and stronger as he builds toward the instrumental bridge. Love the vocal pirouette in the word “fall”. And the ohs and the yeahs begin and the mixture of those two vowels increases the vocal dimension in this area of the song. The mixture of the two adds color and nuance to this passage – most definitely.
I sense that the “ohs” allow David to open his throat and project his voice in a liberated manner so that, when he follows with the “yeah yeah” part – he is able to properly maintain his vocal focus.
And then, his established momentum is where he wants it now, as he passionately moves toward his last take of the refrain – High B and all – just perfectly! Great vocal double pirouette in the word “call” , a great vocal twist on his 2nd last “Angel and a spectacular run on the last “Angels”! Oh my! That was just a brilliant end to a brilliant performance! Whew – I’m exhausted for him!

I never mentioned this before, but I have always loved watching him ascend those stairs during the instrumental introduction of this song. He establishes the mood so well with his measured steps, so rhythmically synchronized to the music. It gives him time to really internalize the emotional core of this song before he begins to sing.

This is a really good video and we can see David’s expressive face during this song. Oh my, how I love his head voice – so darn beautiful and heartfelt. And it provides contrast to the strength and power of his full tenor/baritone range.
And before we know it we are in that – as Janey has called it – his hunkerdown position” during the elongated “too late” section. Boy, this kid really knows how to squeeze out every last drop of vocal energy and passion within in. It’s totally astounding- totally – and yet so very real. He feels each and every word – every last one!
And he hits Hazelnut’s favorite “yeah” section and twists and turns it with his voice one last time. And, I totally agree, Hazelnut, his voice was extremely centered indeed –very controlled.
Ah yes, enjoying the Archuleta Artistry is indeed a good and happy place to be right now.

David is thanking and thanking his extremely appreciative audience and they do scream their love and adoration for him.
And, as he sings this song, he strolls across the stage to perform a “meet and greet” with the fans. Those rhythmic steps when he sings “so dahling, dahling” get me every time. So precious! What a little flirt! Hahaha
And then he moves easily and effortlessly into his “beautiful girls” segment and it is always a great, great interlude in this song.
Whoops – a little vocal glitch in the second last “stand” – like his voice kicked out. Aww – poor kid, he needed to cough, but, he did so quietly and calmly – as if it was part of the vocal act and then nailed the final “stand by me” as phenomenally as always.
Now that deserved a standing ovation. He is obviously still struggling with his cold and yet, in this Cleveland performance, he attempted many, many difficult vocal maneuvers despite his illness. Now that’s talent!

He finally gives himself a chance to clear his throat and then connects with his audience before we are transported to another world with David via the opening strains of this beautiful song.
He always sounds so perfect when he sings this song, doesn’t he? And I love when he uses his arms to reach his audience –so tender and so sensitive he is as an artist
And, Janey – you are correct, those “alive” segments were gorgeous and luscious – especially the second one, where he brings both arms out to the side. Spectacular.
And, another little cough, before he serenades us with those sensitive “oooos”. And the vocal pirouette on the word “love – gorgeous.
He is soooo darn cute. He says “Excuse me for the…” and then points to his throat. What a sweetheart! Nothing to be sorry for David! Even when you have a cold, you sound like million bucks. First class all the way!

yes, I still lurk here. Almost daily.
I enjoyed WYSYLM from Cleavland very much…The Ooooo part seemed very gentle…different than the other versions I’ve heard…. Perhaps I seem strange for saying this, but what got me in this performance was the movement of his hand, after the pause, to conduct the orchestra into his final…”when you say..” Such a soft movement, I’ve watched it many times, its difficult to see where he actually gives his down beat…..As a cellist, I’m used to taking emotional cues from a conductor’s hand. The way he conducted that pause communicates to me volumes of what hes trying to transmit emotionally…trying not to destroy the tranquility of what he just created. Combine that with the Oooo section before…. I was touched. I would not expect this musical maturity from a 17 yr old, even David.

It’s about the music, yes, but I too was all ‘fangirly’ standing right next to this musical miracle! All my music questions flew out of my head. I should have written them down like a trained journalist. That might have scared him though. haha

Findacure – I love watching David’s arms and, I guess, because I am a conductor, I am drawn to his abilty to physically express his feelings. David is not inhibited when it comes to expressing his emotions when he sings – the sign of a true artist. For his age, though, it’s unbelievable.
ArchieFanDoc – I watched some of your videos – they were super. Now I wish I had used my video camera at the “meet and greet” in Toronto. What great memories you have conserved on DVD! Lucky you! Will watch the rest of them tomorrow – there ar so many – I love it!

When I discovered your site last spring, it probably helped save my sanity! I so loved David Archuleta, but hated the show. I dislike the way AI treats the talent during the show and now on the summer tour. AI works them too hard. Shouldn’t a great culture nurture and care for its most talented and gifted people?

Oh, my! MCL, you have made my day! How many times have I read your evaluations “Brava”, “Bravo”, and “Kudos” for wonderful singers, and never would have dreamed that I would receive such accolades! Thank you so much. I cannot take credit for Typepad’s layout however. I do try to use HTML in my posts. You may have noticed that I’ve had the Scriptype account since 2006 and haven’t done much blogging — until David Archuleta inspired me.

I am loving the new confident Jason on stage. Look at him speak to his audience as he strums the opening strains of this song! His comfort level has increased tremendously throughout this tour and it has become apparent through his relaxed stage demeanor and resonant vocals.
This is a very good video – nice and close. And his chosen tempo tonight is very leisurely and unhurried, so perhaps he has adopted a more introspective approach with this song. Oh – what’s happening here? He breathes in the middle of his first “Somewhere” – perhaps he ran out of air. However, in doing so, he created a neat syncopated rhythmn when he sang the second syllable of the word, “Somewhere”. Cool!
And he is trying to keep the phrases fluids by connecting the words in each phrase in one breath. Good for him. And I llke the little vocal ad lib on the word “fly” at the 1:26 mark. Excellent.
Oh how I wish he would stop spreading his mouth, especially on the “ee” vowel in the word “me”. However, just before he sings that word, you can see him breathing quite efficiently from his diaphragm, which is good. Now he needs to learn how to use the air to create the best possible vocal sound and a rectified mouth position would be a good place to start. Pretty please, Jason?
But listen to his baritone voice – it’s gorgeous. He needs to find songs that further highlight this area of his range
All in all this was rock-steady performance – not a hint of anxiety at all -like he was cherishing this moment in time for eternity. He must be feeling the bittersweet end to this exciting tour – happy for some R&R, yet regretting leaving a group of individuals who have truly been like family to him.
Jason – it’s okay. It is only the beginning! Have faith!

Now, this song is sounding better and better and better. I love watching him perform this song – he is totaly immersed in the soulful music of this song arrangement and his voice warps around the melody line with such ease and confidence. Just beautiful.
And the vocal nuances he employs during this number are subtle, but, definitely there – the contrast beatween his softer lower range and the passion and strength of the upper
And doesn’t the band do a wonderful job with this song? They add more strength to Jason’s guitar accompaniment as the song moves forward and their contribution adds a multi-dimensional aspect to this performance.
And – wow – beautiful head voice at the end! Good work, my Jason!

And Jason’s animated performance of this number is such a joy to watch. Look at that face – he is so happy and elated and his resonant, expressive and soulful vocal timbre mirrors this sentiment.
The song actually picks up speed after the instrumental section. The happy, carefree nature of the song probably encourages Jason to do so, but I am sure he is unaware that this is happening. He’s just having a great ‘ole time on that stage and, boy, does the crowd adore him or what?
It all just ends too soon – but, this kid better be signed and mentored correctly. He needs to stay current in the music biz. We need artists like Jason. He is unique, genuine, brimming with talent and charisma
