About Masterclass Lady
Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli.
When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler.
She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8.
In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman.
In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins.
In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright.
In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins.

Wow Janey….great videos. Thanks for finding them. No matter how many times I watch clips of these same songs performed, there’s always something new to enjoy.
WYSYLM..love the suspension he adds on the word “alive” before resolving it (around 1:47-48).
Stand by Me…what great camera work…as if the person was on stage following him around! He is so playful and fun, despite still being quite sick.
I went to the Tampa show, but was out of town for several days and didn’t get to comment. All the performers were excellent. But David is truly in a class by himself. He was in great form that night, as he had some relatives in attendance. I have no words to describe the aural and visual impact of that presence, live on stage. Truly amazing.

Finally – something to work with. I will have a look at these later. Hazel nut – you must be a musician yourself. You know what a suspension is! Yea! Now I am excited to hear what he does in this part of the song.
But, I am into the the McCain/Obama thing right now on CNN. I am so excited for this campaign I feel like starting another blog. haha I should just get it over with and move to the States.

Last 2 seasons of AI, I made a point to pass your website on to several music colleagues, so they could share with their students. These kids all watch AI, so why not help them make informed choices! 😉

haha Hazlenut – thank heavens you are an Obama fan. When I posted that comment I thought, “Oh no, I am going to alienate some readers and start a war on this site.” So far, so good! Whew!
Thank you so much for spreading the Masterclass word. I am always so amazed at the level of support that I receive from readers and you are an excellent example. And, I love that you, as a musician, take the time to come on here and add your comments and your perspective to the performances. This is what I look for – it makes for great, great discussion I feel.

He still has that nagging cough, but he seems in great spirits before this song begins.
And he sounds as spectacular as ever. He has such a strong cohesive approach to his vowels and, as a result, his melody line is so musical and fluid. The phrasing is impeccable and he firmly establishes a strong forward momentum with this song, so that there is never any uncomfortable moments of silence – not even when he breathes. Just a quick breath and he is on his way again, vocalizing with passion and power.
He seems more relaxed in front of the microphone stand – he is not clutching it as he has done on some occasions. He is using his hands and arms to mirror the expression in his voice – I just love when he does this. He is reaching out to his audience and wants to communicate with them so very well – and so he does! This song and his voice = pure magic!
OO-oooo – yes, Hazelnut – I love that “alive” suspension. Good call indeed! I wonder if David even knows he is doing all these wonderful things -he is so musical – it’s as if he is arranging the song to suit his performing mood “on the fly”
What a beautiful performance – the ending – goose bumps. And he is overwhelmed with the emotion coming from the crowd. But he is speaking with more energy and less fatigue – and more confidence. Good for him. And I am happy that he looks and feels and sounds rested and refreshed.

Wow – great camera. Either the videographer was on stage or had a great zoom option. This is a super video/audio experience. Next best thing to being there.
I love when he holds and sustains that “dahling” word – haha! He is teaching all of us a bel canto lesson through these performances and he never lets us down – never!
And he does his little 3-step run into the “beautiful girls” segment with finesse and poise. And he just sails through this song with consummate style and substance, but how he contains his cough during the performance is a complete mystery.
As soon as the song ended, he was coughing into his hand. There’s one for the books, His voice sounded as amazing and as pure as ever, but he must be experiencing some phlegm overload or he wouldn’t need to cough. Oh David – you are one prodigious talent!

I’m so glad you liked my videos of David from the Oklahoma City concert. And, yes, my camera does have a good zoom. I was fairly close to the ramp section where the idols come to touch the fans hands, but the zoom was still a big help. I’m a big DA fan and a member of the Golden Archies fan club. I have really enjoyed reading your comments on all the tours.
