Hello everyone!

I hope y’all had a relaxing, memorable holiday. Mine was splendid and filled with family, laughter, music, good food and just plain ‘ole fun!

But now the decorations have been carefully stored, the house is quiet, the baking is gone (thank heavens) and the laugher and pitter-patter of my grandchildren’s voices and feet respectively are a happy memory.

So what to do, what to do? Oh yes, I have a blogging site or two or three to address.

So here I am – finally – ready to roll.

And, with the New Year, we find ourselves immersed in January 2012. But, no January blues here because it is Awards Show season.

However, more important, a new season of American Idol, the raison d’être behind this and many blogging sites, is premiering this week. I don’t know about you but I think January and American Idol go together like cookies and milk.

We also have Season 2 of The Voice on the radar, as well as NBC’s new series “Smash”, featuring American Idol Season 5 Runner-Up, the very talented Katharine McPhee.

So, it is going to be a very busy few months with lots to chat about. I can’t wait to share ideas and opinions with all of you once again.

Are you excited about the return of American Idol and The Voice? How about “Smash”, The Grammys, The Golden Globes, The Oscars, The Tonys and so much more?

Okay, this elimination really hurt. What is wrong with this show? James received the
lowest number of votes? Really? REALLY?

Okay, relax now! Perhaps the producers are planning another Daughtry scenario. You know the story. Rock star, Chris Daughtry was eliminated during the Results Show Of American Idol Season 5. However, he went to enormous success post-Idol. His concerts and CD sales speak volumes.

Now, after last nights’s Top 4 elimination, the gifted and gracious James Durbin finds himself exactly in the same position as Chris Daughtry. Two rockers eliminated – 5 years apart – at the Top 4 level of an American Idol competition. Will history repeat itself? Let’s hope so.

James Durbin Fans Shocked, Upset At His ‘American Idol’ Ouster

No one could predict this elimination. James managed to avoid the bottom after all these weeks. And, Haley, whose 2nd home was the Bottom 3, somehow fought her way all the way to the coveted Top 3.

Many are saying that the incessant pimping of James by the judges was responsible for the downfall. I do agree that the judges should have given him more constructive advice in terms of improving his performances.

However, let’s face it, the guy came out on that stage week after week and ignited the audience with his star power and style.

Yes, his lower range was a problem – a huge problem. Yet, this week, did you notice that he avoided singing in this part of his range? He knew it wasn’t working and, smart, savvy guy that he is, highlighted his strengths and nestled his vocal prowess in the comfortable confines of his upper range.

‘American Idol’ Outrage: The Wrong Person Got Sent Home!

And don’t even get me started with all the ridiculous accusations about James’ supposed “pitchy” singing. Does anyone even know what the term means? Honestly!

The only time James suffered intonation problems was when he performed his emotionally charged ” Without You”. But, during the song, he managed to rally and bring the song home. The back end of that song was brilliant.

I wish James only the very best in his career and can’t wait to see and hear him on tour. Please come to Canada!

Happy New Year everyone! And I would like to thank you for your patience and support during my self-imposed hiatus from MasterclassLady.Com.

Your dedication to the MCL site has been deeply appreciated and I tremendously value your generous and educational feedback. I am feeling much better and thank all of you for your prayers and concern. I hope that the New Year brings health, prosperity and happiness to each and every one of you.

I have been watching the successful journey of so many of my favorite artists, including Michael Buble, David Archuleta, The Canadian Tenors, David Cook, Jason Castro, Jaydee Bixby, Katharine McPhee and Adam Lambert. I do plan to devote more time to these artists in future blog topics but, for now, I would like to give them a standing “0″ for their enormous success during 2010.

I am also anticipating the premiere of Season 10 of American Idol, scheduled for Wednesday, January 19th. I plan to walk into this year’s show with my eyes wide open and give the new format of judges an opportunity to carve their niche during the course of the season. I am hoping and praying that the vocal talent is exceptional, mirroring the enormous success of Season 7.

So, I look forward to your comments. Rest assured that, over the course of the next few weeks, I will be making some new changes to this site and adding new blog topics for your reading enjoyment.

On Tuesday, June 8th at approximately 9:20 P.M., I experienced a heart attack. It was sudden, it was intense and, over the last couple of weeks, it became a life-changing experience for me.

I am fortunate to live very close to our hospital; therefore, my husband was able to deliver me to the ER in record time.

After I arrived, I was quickly transferred to the ICU where I was monitored by excellent medical staff both in Timmins, Ontario and, later in the week, in Sudbury Ontario.

I am now recuperating under a doctor’s supervision, surrounded by the support and love of family members and friends.

Thank heavens for the Internet! Since I cannot stray too far from home, it allows me to reach out and embrace each and every one of you no matter the time of day or night.

And I am very thankful that we have government subsidized healthcare for all.

During my stay in both hospitals, I realized the importance of this, becoming acutely aware that all patients, regardless of age, color or socio-economic background received the same impeccable treatment and guidance from a first-rate medical team.

It was so comforting to behold – to know that, in a medical crisis, one’s health determines the quantity and consistency of care and not how deeply you can dig through your pockets. The quality is always there, but the level of monitoring increase substantially after one experiences a cardiac event.

Even assigning the limited number of TVs in the ICU unit in Sudbury was determined by your acute health status. One day, as I passed another patient’s room during my early evening walk, I noticed that an extremely ill patient, whom I knew was from a less privileged background, was able to enjoy the only large screen television set on the floor.  It brought a smile to my face and a sense of comfort.

And so, my recovery process begins. I am taking it slow and very easy, taking solace in the words of my doctor who emphasized that, with time and good care, I will eventually be able to lead a normal, productive life. 

However, he cautioned me to maintain a relaxed, less stressful approach in my daily activities. The heart attack was symbolic of working the ‘ole body too hard and one always must be aware of this.

However, for now, I cannot lift anything remotely heavy. Could somebody out there please come and vacuum my house?  Kidding of course – well sort-of!  I can still punch in phone numbers for a cleaning service.  It’s on my “to-do” list tomorrow.

A series of unexpected events have accumulated in my life and I am taking a few days off from updating this site with new blog topics.  I may stop by every so often to comment here and there, but, hopefully, I will be back in action later next week.

I apologize for this and am grateful for your patience and support.

She is  almost 3.5 years old and doesn’t want to sit still for long, so this was best I could achieve!

I hope all of you are celebrating this wonderful time of year. If it were not for our Moms, we wouldn’t be here to appreciate all that life has to offer.

My Mom is very ill now and in her final stages of Alzheimers’ Disease, but there is not a minute that goes by that I don’t reflect on all she has done for me. Both she and my Dad ( who passed on in July 2000) were a combined source of unending love and support and I feel blessed and proud to call them my parents.

The first song that I had a listen to was “Tell Me So” and, before I move on to comment, please know that this concert featured all of Jason’s original song material. And this song was an outstanding testament to the strength of Jason’s songwriting skills. The song is musically fluid and the lyrics blend just beautifully with the melody line. Jason is such a sensitive artist and so in touch with his emotions. His genuine, relaxed manner is transmitted through his musical compositions and his voice is expressive and dynamic during this performance.

One can easily sense Jason’s comfort zone – he is performing music that he truly loves and to which he is obviously committed. This is music that pours forth from his heart and soul and, as a result, he is a relaxed, accommodating presence on stage during the course of this concert. It really is a shame that, during the course of American Idol, we never really saw Jason in true form. He was a shy, almost awkward young singer on stage and yet, when listening to the remainder of songs, I realize that he is very far removed from the “character” we saw on American idol.

During the Garland and Tulsa concert, Jason is in command on stage, enjoying friendly, often comical banter with the audience. His voice sounds absolutely perfect and he has adopted a very sophisticated approach in his songwriting profession. There is real evidence of depth and sensitivity in his music and I can hear so many of these songs as number one hits. Listen to the beauty and passion of “Love Uncompromised” and `“Sweet Medicine”`and the dynamic variation Jason achieves with his voice when he is inspired with the right song material – his own. His head tone is just gorgeous and so clear and transparent. Mmm, mm!

Oh, and as an aside, I have reviewed “Sweet Medicine” previously. Have a click and read – it`s all good, very good!

And what a kick of nostalgia and sentiment to hear Jason`s superb soulful performance of White Christmas. in the middle of a very cold January. This is one of the best renditions of this number I have ever heard and it chased away my January blahs in a monumental way. It is gorgeous and speaks to the distinct artistry of one Jason Castro. Oh, and yes, I heard and loved how he grabbed every vowel in the word “Christmases” – really grabbing the “àh” vowel in the 2nd syllable.

As Jason’s voice matures and settles, his voice is going to grow in stature and depth. More important, if he finds a good voice teacher to hone his technical skills while preserving his natural musicality and relaxed singing style, he will be truly unstoppable. This is important, because what we do not want to see happen is for Jason to lose his natural spontaneity when he sings, as evidenced in songs like the beautiful “It’s All Right With Me”. His voice resonates with strength and passion during this number. Listen to the lovely ad-lib portion a the end of this number. Just outstanding!

All he needs is further study in the correct breathing skills when he performs, coupled with the very important circular mouth formation/relaxed jaw combo when grabbing those vowels. All in time, however, and I sense that Jason will wisely protect his voice. It is indeed a precious commodity.

I might add that I really loved his performance of Leonard Cohen`s “Hallelujah”- it was heartfelt and full of the angst that is at the core of this song`s story. Beautiful performance, Jason!

This was a great way to begin a very busy week here at MasterclassLady.Com and I do apologize for the delay in writing this article. Sometimes, 24 hours a day and seven days a week does not afford one time to do everything one wants to do.

I hope all of you have had a relaxing and healthy holiday and are ready to begin another year full of fun, surprises, success and, most of all, good health.

I had a wonderful time over the Christmas season and am happy to announce that my younger daughter, Maria, announced her engagement to a wonderful young man. As you can well imagine, we are very excited here and that explains my lack of presence on the MCL site. We have been very busy booking venues for the ceremony and reception, the photographer, the musicians etc. I think we have done all we can do – for the moment. Ha!

And, of course, I am all geared up for the American Idol Season 8 premiere next week. I believe the start date is January 13th, 2009 and the show is offering a new format this season. Plus, we cannot forget about the new judge added to the triumvirate of Paula, Simon and Randy – Kara DioGuardi.

However, I am anxiously waiting to view the historical Presidential American Inauguration on January 20th, 2009, starring President-Elect, Barack Obama. Just typing this man’s name, I get goosebumps. What an exciting time for Americans and for the world. This man will change the course of history; there will be “bumps” along the way, but, certainly this wonderful and talented man has the capability, skill, drive and determination to weather any storm and circumvent any obstacle.

The depth and emotion that this young man exhibits is beyond his chronological years. After listening to the words and music of David’s composition, I tried to comprehend how this young 14-year-old boy could create such a sophisticated composition.

This is a song that makes you think and that pushes one to explore the depth of one’s soul. Staying in touch with your true emotions is a good and healthy formula to adopt and this song allows and encourages you to develop an introspective approach to your life. It’s beautifully formulated and David’s voice is glowing with nuance and sensitivity.

David is truly a prodigious and sensitive talent, a real gift to the music industry.

I have been experiencing a busy couple of weeks here and will be taking a break from MasterclassLady.Com. over the next few days. I need time to replenish my tired mind and body and, also, to enjoy the company of my beautiful granddaughter, Kyra.

I appreciate the links and commentary that many of you have contributed to my site and please continue to do so in this post. I will try to comment as much as possible, but, if you don’t hear from me for a bit, it is only temporary -rest assured!

Also, I had the opportunity to hear Canadian country sensation and Canadian Idol runner-up from Season 5, 18-year old, Jaydee Bixby, in concert in Cobalt Ontario.

He is truly a magnificent talent, possessing a superlative voice and outstanding entertainment and performing skills, especially given his young age.

My daughter and I had an opportunity to meet with him and his talented band after the show and he remembered me from the Vocal Masterclass articles from Canadian Idol Season 5. He is a genuine, caring and enthusiastic young man, so positive and so passionate about his career.He also is very, very generous and appreciative toward his fans.

I plan to write an article about his show in Cobalt in the near future. I sense that Elvis truly lives through Jaydee, but the look is entirely different. It is pure Jaydee, but with an Elvis vibe.
