Well here we go again. Season 3 of The Voice begins Monday evening at 8:00 P.M. on NBC. Are you ready to listen to these wild and crazy judges?

They are oftentimes more entertaining than the competitors but then, what else is new? This seems to be all the rage on reality TV singing competitions as the judges from each show try to out-judge one another in the ratings.

Poor singers – deluding themselves into thinking this is all about them. Nope! It is about their mentors and their attempt to revive their careers in their new role as coaches.

But, hey, I am not complaining. The judges from The Voice are extremely compatible and articulate in their comments. How NBC managed to snag these four talented singers as judges is quite bewildering when one sees how difficult it has been for American Idol to keep their judges eager and happy for more than two years.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that producer Mark Burnett is at the helm, guiding the show in exciting and new directions. In fact, there will be a few twists and turns along the way this season that will “up the ante”, so to speak, making the Battle Rounds more exciting and sustainable in the eyes and ears of the viewers.

And one of my favorites singers in the world, Michael Buble will be assisting Blake Shelton during the coaching sessions . Buble love!

So make sure you tune into NBC on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for the Blind Auditions – the neatest part of the whole competition. Although, part of me senses that even this segment of the show is slightly staged. But, hey, that’s me! How about you?

About Masterclass Lady

Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8. In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright. In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins. Under Rosanne Simunovic’s direction, the Timmins Youth Singers and the Timmins Concert Singers have been featured in numerous choral festivals and performing opportunities outside of Timmins.     Hello MCL,
    It appears that everyone missed three good shows this week. If not for your scheduling heads up I would have missed it too. Thank you. There are several interesting singers so far. I enjoyed Brian Keith and the guy who sang last on the first night. Brian’s voice had a nice raspy quality to it that seemed more mature than his age and the “last guy” was quite a surprise. He may suffer from the same syndrome that the divas do if he continues to perform in a style that isn’t currently in vogue. There were others but none come to mind right now.

    I don’t usually like the judge centric format of most of these shows but somehow this one works quite well, at this stage of the game anyway, where others are a bore when they put too much emphasis on the judges. It appears that Christina has gone to charm school since last season. It appears that they have added a “steal” rule of some sort that will allow one mentor to steal a member of another team at some point. I hope it allows them to pick up a good singer who has been thrown away during the battle rounds. I felt like one of Christina’s tactics was to hoard the good singers to keep them from the other teams, so this might provide some defense against such tactics. Do you know anything about this new procedure? I’ve also noticed that they want to make it clear that they intend to be around for a while with more than one mention of season four already. I thought it was a pretty good kick off for season three. The Voice is best of the major singing competition programs at getting their season up and running without so much wasted time. We will have to see if they can keep the pace up throughout the season. How is the season shaping up for you so far?

    On a slightly related note, I went to a great concert a few weeks ago, primarily to see The King of The Blues, BB King, one more time. He is still performing 100 shows per year at age 86 and was suburb! Also appearing was a Blues rock band named “Tedeschi Trucks Band” which consists of Derrick Trucks who is the nephew of Butch Trucks, one of the founding members of the “Almond Brothers Band.” Derick also has played with the “The Almond Brothers” since 1992 and is listed by “Rolling Stone Magazine” as #15 on it’s list of all time great guitarist; BB King is #16. (Here’s the connection to The Voice) Derrick also has a band of his own, “The Derick Trucks Band,” and it was that band that launched the career of Javier Colon, the first season winner of The Voice. But wait, there’s more. Tedeschi is Derrick’s wife, Susan Tedeschi, who is quite the item in Blues circles. This girl rocks! Her singing style is similar to Bonnie Raitt with a taste of Janis Joplin thrown in for good measure. She also plays pretty good blues guitar similar to Bonnie. They travel as part of an 11 piece band with a very strong vocal component, which was a merger of their two bands. Trucks said when ask why such a large band when others just use tracks on a lap top; “because that’s what it takes to make music like it should be made.” The show had a feeling of passing of the torch from the old face of the Blues to the new. It was particularly rewarding to see a young girl next to me in the audience, who was about 10 years old who had come to the show with her grandfather, grooving to The King of The Blues. The two of them left after BB’s set with big smiles on their faces. Good music and good entertainment is timeless.

    Gene – thank you for that neat story about Javier Colon. And I always love reading about musicians that I haven’t had the pleasure to see or hear. Lots of talent out there, isn’t there?

    The Voice is shaping up to be an excellent show this season. And, yes, Christina has definitely gone to some sort of charm school. Haha. She was definitely bringing down the show last season.

    Don’t know why others haven’t yet commented on the show – maybe everyone is busy getting into the September groove. 🙂

    Watching all of the shows is a full time job right now and Idol hasn’t even started yet. I can watch the X-Factor in about 10 minutes on the DVR but sometimes I feel guilty for wasting that much time on it. I also like to watch Dancing with the Stars whose season just started last night. They have surprisingly good live music plus it never ceases to amaze me just how hard the contestants will work for the coveted mirror ball trophy.

    The Voice has a really good season going so far.
