Spoiler: Vocal Masterclass Discussion For American Idol Season 11 Top 7 Performance Show: Songs From This Decade

Well, no DeAndre for me tonight! I am still reeling over his elimination last week but, having watched him on all the talk shows, I know he will be just fine.

I so loved Jay Leno’s words of encouragement and support for Dre’s exceptional talent. It bodes very well for his future success in the music industry. We haven’t seen the last of this young man. This is only the beginning!

So, what do we have here? A very interesting, very diverse Top 7!

It will be interesting to see who sings what but, all in all, there is a wide range of material to choose from. Anything from Michael Buble to Bruno Mars to Lady Gaga to The Biebs to Beyonce and, of course, Adele. ( Heaven help us with this last choice.). She is turning into the Celine Dion of the 21st Century.

I wonder if there will be more combos tonight? Perhaps one trio and two duets? I love that the producers introduced this idea into the early performance shows this year. I am amazed to see the relaxed transformation of these singers when they perform with a partner or two!

Good luck to all the singers and don’t forget to add your seasoned thoughts in the comments section of this blog topic.

Update: Spoiler Alert: Here is a picture of the song list. Looks like we will be treated to some combos! Wee!

  1. Hmmmm! Interesting song list…this could be a great night OR well I won’t go there, to many trains and buses already!

  2. Poor Hollie…how sad, why are the judges beating her up each week? They have that poor girl so stressed!

  3. Yes they do Vonnie! She did struggle tonight.

  4. It was really sad watching the judges react to Hollie’s performance. I knew the first person would say something about the fact that she looked good tonight. They always do that when they don’t like the performance.

My absolute favorite of the night was Joshua.

  5. I really enjoyed Colton’s performance tonight. I thought he sounded great!

  6. Honestly at this point i don’t even want to hear what the judges have to say. It’s so over-scripted. And yes, I’m doing what I’ve said for 2 year straight that I’ve said I wouldn’t do – I’m voting.

  7. And let me sneak in an off-topic remark – I downloaded Siobhan’s Magnus’s “Moonbaby” – I haven’t listened to it all yet but she does an amazing cover of “No One Compares 2 U”. Very cool.

  8. Last night was an off night for me…I have a cold and fluid filled ears, so each performance sounded like they were screaming at me!!!

If I had to pick a bottom three I would say, Hollie, Phillip, and Skylar with Skylar going home!

I listened to Hollie last night, she has a country music tone to her voice, but more of the soft country singers, like Faith Hill, and Martina McBride….maybe she should change up her genre!!!

  9. Scratch my top three, just went to dial idol and looked my girl Elise is at the bottom with Colton, Jessica, and Hollie…Joshua, Phillip, and Skylar are predicted to be safe, with Hollie right with them.

Well if Elise goes home tonight I will still have Phillip and Hollie to root for!

Phillip my man, you gotta start singing something different you can’t have a whole album of the same sounding song. Try a ballad next week and sing it soft the whole time!

  10. @Vonnie, I checked the dialidol predictions, too. Philip has a very strong voting block. No matter how dull he is, he pulls those votes in. I was surprised to see Jessica’s 5th place. I’m not surprised to see Elise going home, however, her performance last night was one of my favorites. I thought the 2 weakest performances were Skylar and Philip. I feel badly for Hollie, too. Placing her in duets and trios was a good move. She looked more relaxed, her voice was as strong as Jessica’s and I think it’s getting her more votes.

Last night was one of the best nights of the season. Many good performances. It was a real treat.

  11. I think the question is will the judges use the save this evening if it’s Elise? I think there’s a possibility!

  12. Do you really think they’ll use the judge’s save on anyone except Jessica? They might use it on Skylar, Colton, or possibly Joshua. I used to think they’d use it on Philip, but now am not so sure. And I definitely don’t think they will use it on Hollie and maybe not Elise.

  13. Natasha and Louise,

I was wondering the same thing, I think it depends on who else is in the bottom three…if Jessica finds her self there I think the judges wiill then hang on to that save for future use.

I think the judges have a Josh, Jessica and Skylar top three planned, with a Skylar or Jessica win. My money is on Skylar. They wanted a ountry female last year and didn’t get her. Remember how awful the judges were to Scotty in the finale last year?!?!?!?!?

I think it helped last night showing what good friends Josh and Hollie are, it looks like some of his fans may have thrown her a few votes!!!
