Vocal Masterclass Discussion Thread For American Idol Season 11: The Aspen Auditions

I have always wanted to travel to Aspen Colorado, so the closest thing I will encounter is catching a glimpse of it here and there during this evening’s American Idol Aspen auditions.

I wonder if anyone will ski into the auditions. Just a crazy thought!

I pretty much thought that the San Diego auditions were a bust, although I really liked the unassuming and genuine talent of Jane Carrey. She seems rooted and focused, raised with the correct work ethic.

I think there will be more to this story as the season unfolds – at least this is what I hope will happen. Time will tell, but I am rooting for her.

I do like where this show is headed this year. Presently, there seems to be a diversity of talent headed to Hollywood, so I hope this element will be reflected in the Top 24 and, ultimately, in the Top 12.

What do you think of the show thus far? Let us in on your favorites in the comments sections.

When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. 1. I am with you, Rosanne! We are seeing some beautiful sights on the audition shows. Unfortunately, tonight’s show didn’t excite me. I praise Idol for telling Shelbie’s story in dealing with mental illness (Bi-Polar disease). I am happy she auditioned. The “Lady Gaga” audition was definitely different and not boring. However, there is something missing here. Maybe someone can tell me what it is?

That last audition and the build up- to it was a waste of my time. We don’t need 45 year-old men trying to act like Steven Tyler. If the guy had a decent voice, that might make me feel differently.

Also, we have not seen many African-American women. They may have auditioned, but where are they? It seems Idol has a thing for blondes. I am fearful that we are heading for an average season. With all the new shows, Idol needs a terrific season.
I hope it gets better during Hollywood week. The Pittsburg auditions were great, but this week I have been very disappointed.

  2. KariAnn – I thought Aspen had some great singers. It became weak towards the end but there were some fabulous singers in the first half hour or so. Loved the hippie girl – Haley? Some super guys as well. I am curious about the lack of African-American girls. Strange.

  3. I liked the hippie girl too, Rosanne. She reminded me a little of Crystal Bowersox. It’ll be interesting to see her with a guitar (assuming she plays, which I bet she does). And there were a couple African-American tenor singers that sounded great in the snippets that we get. Finally there was a Scotty-McCreery type baritone that I think is actually at least as good. I think there was a lot more talent in the Aspen audition than San Diego. And I have to say I love love love my TiVO. I can fast forward through all those ads :).
