Ryan Seacrest In Negotiations To Develop A Singing Reality Show On NBC

Looks like Ryan Seacrest is planning to follow in Simon Cowell’s footsteps and fly the coop.

According to the New York Post, Ryan is planning to produce a reality-based performance show that will focus on artistry. He is presently in negotiations with NBC which is slowly morphing into Fox.

Ryan was quoted as saying: “”It is self-contained episodes. It is a bit more fun. It’s not contestant competitive. It’s artist competitive.”

I don’t know what that means exactly, except that it could possibly focus on the development of the artist over the course of the competition.

It might be interesting to take someone who is very green, yet talented and watch them emerge as a true artist with the assistance of quality mentors and musicians.

Isn’t that what Simon Cowell’s X-Factor does and plans to do when it debuts in the USA in the Fall of 2011? I don’t know about you, but it’s getting mighty crowded in the performance-based reality show arena.

Does this mean the end of American Idol? Is this why Pia is getting free rein with her recording career? Make a pile a money and close up shop? It certainly looks that way.

The next four weeks of American Idol might just be the last four weeks. I can’t envision this show without Ryan. He is the bonding factor that keeps this show running smoothly each week.

Will you miss the show if it sails into the sunset? Do you think Ryan is going to be a success beyond Idol?

Rosanne (Giallonardo) Simunovic began her musical career in Timmins, Ontario. She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Teacher’s Diploma in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. She has been a founding member of numerous community-based arts organizations: the Timmins Arts Council, later known as Arts & Culture Timmins, the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and, the Timmins Youth Singers…as well as the TYS Alumnus choir, the Timmins Concert Singers. In 1987, she was also selected to be the conductor of the Timmins Board Of Education Choir, comprised of talented students from Grades 5 to 8. In 1988, she was elected to the Board Of Directors of the Ontario Choral Federation (now known as Choirs Ontario), where she served as Chair of the Festivals Committee for six consecutive seasons. In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. In August of 2002, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Board Of Directors of Choirs Ontario to serve as Conductor of both the Provincial Junior and Teen Choir Camps, now renamed in honour of the Camp Benefactors, Don and Lillian Wright. In November 2002, Rosanne was the one of the recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her work in the development of the arts in Timmins. Under Rosanne Simunovic’s direction, the Timmins Youth Singers and the Timmins Concert Singers have been featured in numerous choral festivals and performing opportunities outside of Timmins.     Let me preface my remarks by saying that I have a shorter history with Idol than most people on this forum. Last week (or maybe the week before) I was having a conversation with someone on Twitter (fellow Glambert) about how mean Ryan Seacrest can be. Or seems to be. We both thought he might kick puppies in his spare time. I for one would NOT miss him. The biggest reason I would miss Idol, if it were to end, is sharing discussions on this forum . But I’m sure we’d find other things to discuss. There will most likely always be some sort of singing reality show on TV although I’m not sure I would watch another one hosted by Ryan. And since I’m still mad at Simon from last season I won’t be watching X-Factor. Hmmmmm……

    I can imagine AI without Ryan as long as he is replaced by Adam Lambert. I had made a prediction that at some point this season that one of the judges or Ryan would say something stupid and be asked to leave and Adam would be asked to replace him.

    I cannot imagine that Fox will retire AI as long as it is one of the highest rated and most profitable shows left on its schedule.

    However, the proliferation (and subsequent dilution) of ‘unreality’ shows that are replacing “creative” staff (writers and directors) will forever blur the line between fiction/drama and fact-based productions.

    When the best and the brightest move from “drama” to another venue to use their skills to earn a living, where do think they will go? Will they go to another “fiction-based” venue or a “fact-based” one?

    One of the unfortunate unintended consequences of all of this “framing” of “true” events is that the cynicism and skepticism in the Web 2.0 populations will continue to grow. Do not be misled that this cynicism means that we are now “better thinkers” — sophisticated thinking requires reading and analyzing arguments — and yes, writing skills that take time and practice.

    I just thought people might find it interesting that People Magazine (one of my biggest “guilty pleasures”) compared “The Voice” and Idol in their TV review section this week. Also, let me say that as a consistent reader of People that they can be fairly tough on both movies & TV shows although certainly as “literature” it’s pretty much fluff. But the news is: Idol is their pick over The Voice by a pretty wide margin.

    I think AI could survive quite well without Ryan Seacrest. There is someone else out there that can fill those shoes in a skinny minute. I don’t think it would be Adam, though – he’s a performer with a blossoming career, in my opinion.
