Masterclass Discussion Thread For America’s Got Talent: Group Four Of The Top 48

Tonight’s two-hour telecast of America’s Got Talent will feature the Final 12 acts vying for a position in the Semi-Finals.

Last week, I was excited to see Jeremy (the biker guy) advance to the Semi-Finals.  He is such a humble, endearing young man and yet his act is chock full of surprising twists and turns, thus ensuring his potential as a  headliner in Las Vegas.

The singers that have been successful so far are good, but not great; however, I do sense the possibility of growth in each of them as the show progresses. Time will tell!

Hope to see all of you back for some stimulating discussion prior to or after the show airs in your time zone.

She studied piano with Anne Pizzale and later, at an advanced level, with Soeur Anita Vaugeois (Sister Cecile of Les Soeurs De L’Assomption in Timmins). Her vocal and accompaniment skills were nurtured by her aunt, the late Dorothea Mascioli. When Rosanne graduated from O’Gorman High School, she moved on to the University of Toronto where she continued her piano and vocal studies while attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was hired as a piano accompanist for several musical companies, most notably, the National Ballet Of Canada. She presently holds an A.R.C.T. Rosanne has studied choral conducting with numerous well known Canadian Conductors, including Wayne Riddell of Montreal, Quebec and the internationally renowned Dr. Elmer Iseler. 1. So who do you think will stay in the competition? I’m guessing the young singer, the illusionist, the two young dancers, and I have no idea who the fourth act might be.

  2. I completely forgot about Prince Poppycock. I think he’s great, but I’m not so sure that people who vote would vote for him.

  4. Yeah for Prince Poppycock. I’m also glad that the illusionist is moving on because I thought he definitely had a WOW moment!

So can anyone explain to me what will happen next week? What did Nick mean by eleven judges?

  5. I am so annoyed at Sharon’s “fat and sweaty opera singers” remark. I mean, all of us who knows anything about opera know that AGT judges are completely clueless about it and probably have never been inside an opera theater, but Sharon has just confirmed it. Most of today’s REAL (!) opera singers are not fat at all and are actually quite good-looking. I bet the old hag would love to look like Elina Garanca, Renee Fleming or Anna Netrebko. As to tenors – Juan-Diego Florez and Jonas Kaufmann are just hot, and so are most of today’s leading tenors. But of course, most of AGT viewers know nothing about opera…

I think Prince Poppycock is quite entertaining. No, he is not an opera singer, he simply will not be heard in an unamplified opera theater. Additionally, he can’t hit all the notes as written, nor does he have the artistry that opera singers must have to succeed. His is a different artistry and a different talent: he makes a combination act of pop and opera and makes opera more accessible to people who wouldn’t have listened to it otherwise. He is fun, he’d make a great Vegas act. Anybody who don’t understand the difference, listen to Thomas Hampson’s singing “Largo al Factotum” – notice the tempo, the diction, expression, and yes what the correct notes are, then listen to Prince Poppycock. You may prefer Prince Poppycock, especially if you like pop more than opera, but it’s still a different genre. Ditto with “Vesti la Giubba” – listen to Pavarotti or Domingo singing it or if you want contemporary tenor – Roberto Alagna (who by the way is neither fat nor sweaty and is actually quite good-looking). This is not a negative remark about Prince Poppycock, I believe classical crossover/popera has it’s place, but it’s still a different genre.
