Paparazzi Kid:12-Year-Old Web Sensation Greyson Chance On Ellen

I think Ellen Degeneres should start her own talent show.

She has added a new and prolific feature to her show – the Wonderful Web Of Wonderment and has discovered remarkable talent through YouTube.com.

Every day she has featured some phenomenal, undiscovered talent and will be offering $10,000 and exciting life-changing opportunities for the eventual winner of the series.

However, a young man named Greyson Chance  may have just sealed the deal!  This 12-year-old singer hails from  Edmond, Oklahoma and is, without a doubt, on his way to a monumental career.

Seated at the piano, Greyson performed an excellent cover of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” and I have to tell you – I was impressed.  He has studied piano for three years but has not had the benefit of vocal training, something that needs to be addressed sooner than later.

He has a gorgeous voice but it needs to be harnessed through further technical study. Additionally, given his gender,  his voice will be changing very soon and he will have to adapt to these changes. Proper technical guidance will assist him, ensuring the vocal longevity and health of his beautiful vocal instrument.

However, no one can deny is incredible talent and his performance of Paparazzi was a joy to behold!  Plus, he is a courteous, intelligent and sweet young man  and has all the marketable elements for a successful career.

Ellen Degeneres has an entire page devoted to Greyson, featuring his own compositions and several other important links. Good stuff!

  1. MCL, My thoughts exactly! Someone needs to get Greyson to MCL or Dean Kaelin ASAP!!!!!

  2. Cowell should get Greyson to come liven up Idol! lol

  3. Janey – agreed. I would work with hinm in a heartbeat! And Dean would be terrific as well.

  4. I LOVE this kid – I was blown away & haven’t been thinking about or listening to much else for the last 3 days. Remarkable intensity, focus & performance skills! But yes, I am hoping that he will work with a voice teacher immediately. I think he said in the Ellen interview that he had only been taking piano lessons for 3 years. Wow! It’ll be interesting to see what happens next for Greyson.

  5. I can’t speak to the finer technical aspects of singing, but Greyson does seem to have is a precocious send of tone, phrasing and dynamics. Talented kid :) Hope he keeps working and goes to college.

  6. MCL,

Thanks so much for providing this line to a very extraordinary young man. To take on that song really shows talent and guts! It’s an incredibly difficult song to sing. This kid has the raw, undeveloped talent. Now he just needs to be under the guidance and tutelage of the right vocal coach to work on helping him develop some good vocal technical skills, harness that great voice, get through the adolescent changes and come out a fully realized talent.

He would be fortunate to work with you! I love seeing a young kid with this kind of unbelievable talent. It makes me feel less cynical about things. There is an inbridled joy in seeing someone so young enjoy a moment on nationwide tv, where we can all see him rejoice in doing what he loves.

  7. I just zipped through the 30 minutes of songs of the top 3 – no great moment – nothing really bad – got a shot of Ellen looking glum – why do I get the feeling Ellen won’t be back next year?

  8. Julia,

I definitely got the feeling that TPTB were planning to give Ellen a pink slip based on the questions included in the AI survey. It’s too bad really. I dislike the four-judge panel, but I like Ellen. I think that she and Randy should stay, and Kara and Simon be replaced by a single judge.

  9. Dear Sue,

I agree that Simon is bored, Kara is _________ (fill in your choice); and could easily be replaced by a judge with knowledge and experience in MUSIC, the entertainment industry, and who is still enthusiastic. I do not see how Kara adds value and she seems to lack any sense of empathy – it always seems to be all about KARA. I would like a bit of empathy for the contestants; however, Simon was the bad guy so I think they will pick at the very least someone who has a sardonic bent.

Ellen and Randy are my favorite judges and I would like to have them both return next year; but, does Ellen even LIKE this job? I don’t think so. I think she would like to continue in more of a mentoring venue – she seems to have a hard time when it is time to say good-bye.
