W ell, who is leaving us tonight? Methinks that it’s a guy. It’s time! Ugh! The show is going to get ugly from here on in. Wonder when the judges will use the “save” option? Tonight? Never?

However, on the bright side, the charming Kellie Pickler from Season 6 will be gracing the American Idol stage this evening. She will be singing her new single, “Best Days of Your Life.”

I love this gal! She has such a sparkling personality and her laidback, innocent humor puts a smile on my face every time I seen and hear her. Never change, Kellie!

The Masterclass Doors are now open for business! Enjoy the show!

Oh – and don’t forget to download the Top 13 performances on I-Tunes. And, while you are there, catch a couple of songs from one of my three CDs. (shameless self-promotion – couldn’t resist. haha)

  1. I was never a huge fan of Kellie Pickler’s singing, but I love her personality. I hope she has a great performance tonight!

As for who might get the “save”, I think it could be Allison. She’s my #2 pick (Adam is my favorite), but she keeps landing near the bottom in voting. I hope the judges save her if it comes to that.

  2. Unfortunately, I think Kris is going home. He’s a boy, he sang early, got bad comments from the judges, and the other boys were all pretty good.

    Can’t wait to see Adam!

  3. Scott is voted off? No one saves him? I want to throw up!

  4. That was sad to see. It’s going to get tougher and tougher to see the contestants go home each week. At least Scott went out on a high note.

It seems like the bottom 3 keeps changing around. Very unpredictable.

I don’t like how they don’t always recap the previous night’s performances. They have done it a few times this season, and I feel kinda ripped off. LOL.

That Ford commercial was kinda cool. Love Adam. 🙂

  5. Though I feel Scott did deserve to go home, this seemed especially cruel to me tonight. I actually got a little teary watching him try desperately to save himself, not realizing there was NO way it would happen. Jerking the contestants around like this is not entertaining to me. They are human beings, not toys to play with. Shame on Idol for putting these aspiring artists through this sham.

  6. I hate all the fake drama. I don’t think the judges are really deliberating anything. The producers have already decided ahead of time who will be saved, and I don’t think it was in the cards for Scott.

  7. I agree that they had already decided, but I still think it was nice that they told him 2 of them were thinking of keeping him. Contrast this with last week. Big difference.

  8. I agree with you, Katillac. I guess I’m cynical when it comes to American Idol, but I also don’t think they had any intention of keeping Scott. Although I think it was believable that two of them were considering it because Paula and Kara genuinely seemed to be enjoying his performance tonight. But I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that it was already decided by the judges to do that so they wouldn’t look so bad. In my opinion, this save feature has not been a good addition to AI. It just makes it doubly humiliating for the contestant who is leaving.

  9. I think America and the judges were right on this one. It’s not just a matter of whether Scott was good – it’s about the other contestants too. It really didn’t seem like anyone else’s time to go, though the bottom three were right on.

  10. It was sad to see Scott go; he was such an inspirational contestant. I actually liked the song he sang! This ‘Judges Save’ is so humiliating and I agree they decide beforehand.

If they use the save next week, no problem. However, if they use it for the TOP 6, it would mean six contestants sing 2 songs, and they go from 6 to 4 in one week. I do not like this whole concept.

Alexis’ leaving was the cruelest of all. Megan says she wants to sneak her in the tour bus. I would hope so.

  11. I absolutely HATE this stupid judge’s save. It IS cruel to watch the contestants singing their hearts out hoping to stay another week. While I applaud Scott’s courage to get out from behind the piano, he probably should’ve stayed there. It was his time to go. I’m already looking forward to the tour this summer, I really love a lot of the kids this season. It will be a pleasure to see Scott singing and playing the piano. I hope he does the Billy Joel song he sung so well last week. I should say that I am absolutely not voting for anyone this year…I killed myself voting for David Archuleta with multiple phones, lol. I don’t regret that at all because he was so worth it. Adam Lambert, my favorite this year, is amazing. His vocals gives me chills, each week wowing me more than the previous. He is simply brilliant beyond belief. But Archie…Archie touches me in a way that no other singer has ever done and he continues to do so. Thank you MCL for posting his How Great Thou Art audio performance. The way he sang the last verse and chorus managed to grab my heart and start that ole familiar river of tears. The boy is simply beyond beautiful…no words can adequately describe what that voice does to me.

  12. Well, I have to be honest, tonight’s episode really left me feeling very disheartened. For the first time this season, I feel like the judges truly made a mistake by choosing not to use their save. Scott’s performance may not have been technically great last night, but I thought it was AMAZING tonight! Scott poured everything he had into it and showcased his beautiful, unique voice. He was a credit to the show, and come next week I will definitely miss him. He was a fun-loving person who always had a joke ready to crack whenever things became too serious. He had a voice given to him by none other than God and a sincerity that is so elusive in performers today. You know what? For me personally, I adamantly believe Scott’s performance was the second best this week. His and Danny’s studio versions are the only ones I am willing to spend money to buy, and I intend to do just that. Lil should’ve gone home before him. That is for sure.

  13. I thought they were exceptionally cruel to Scott tonight – unnecessarily so. Paula’s little ‘We All Really Love You’ speech afterward didn’t make it any more palatable. Poor Scott was up there – his eyes frantically searching for what he is physically unable to see – trying to discern if there was really a chance – and there wasn’t; not really. And I’m sick of hearing what a ‘good guy’ Simon really is. If he were so damn nice he wouldn’t have tortured Scott like that. Has Idol morphed into Survivor?

    Really, truly unnecessary.

  14. I definitely agree with you, Galen, that Scott’s performance was much better on the elimination show than on the Tuesday show. That’s what makes the save feature so ridiculous. It really doesn’t matter how well they do on the elimination show, because it seems the judges have already made up their minds. And they’re “saving” that save feature for one of their favorites.

On the save. I hope they don’t use it. Wouldn’t that be something? LOL.

  16. I am a HUGE Scott fan. Although I am disappointed he went home, I’m not too surprised.

I am very said to see him go, but he took it with such good humor and class that it makes it ok. Now he doesn’t have to worry about what people think and he can just do his thing. I’ve got to say that his Wednesday performance was MUCH better than his Tuesday performance. He seemed to relax and let it fly and it was GREAT. I will miss seeing him on the show each week. Somebody PLEASE take videos of hos tour performances!!!

About the judges’ save. To Scott’s credit, that is the closest they have come to using it thus far. That is very good for Scott’s confidence. It was nice that Paula gave that little speech at the end and was so sweet to him. The judgs only have three more weeks to use the save. I am beginning to wonder if they are ever going to. Anybody with me?

Is there any particular reason Simon always gets the last word on the saves? When it first started I thought the judges would rotate that job, but apparently not. I think they should. Why does Ryan always go to Simon? Any ideas?

I heard that Simon casts the deciding vote in case of a tie…As far as Ryan always going to Simon, I think he likes to goad him… 🙂
Plus, Simon honestly seems to be the one who knows most about this stuff…sometimes Randy and Paula just spout out a lot of really strange stuff…I’d take Simons’ word over any of the other judges any day.

While sad to see him go, I think that Scott’s leaving was coming up rapidly; it was only a matter of time…(haha; that could be said of all but one of them, actually! lol)
And I didn’t think the judges were being cruel at all; they did genuinely seem to care about Scott, and thought seriously of saving him. As Kirsten said, Scott came closer than anyone else (including Alexis-who really deserved it) to receiving the save. That’s a lot.
I think Scott is an amazing, inspirational young man. So glad that we got the chance to see his example for so many weeks already!

  19. We all feel badly when a contestant has to go home. That is the hard part of AI. But look at it another way, they are all relieved to go; there isn’t another stressful week to go through. Adam is the front runner so what is the difference? If they work hard at it instead of moping about being kicked off, they can pick up a recording deal. Look at Kelly Pickler, she was not in the top three or near it. By the way, I thought she sounded like Dolly Parton. Don’t you think so?

  20. I am curious as to what Lil will come out with next week. For her sake, I hope she can find a way to rebound. I’m not a big fan of her, but Tuesday was really rough for her. I hope she can do well next week since she is still on the show. It should be interesting next week, definitely. Not just for Lil but for all the contestants.

I commented on exactly that same thing on my blog! Nice to know it isn’t just me thinking that…
Though, after seeing her last night, I have to say I’m not so much of a fan anymore…she’s really changed alot. 😦

Fe, our local newspaper had a good write up on this aspect of the show. This is one of the biggest mistakes AI has made on the show. I am not enjoying this season at all. Also, there is too much focus on the judges.

MCL, I hope you are feeling a little bit better today! 🙂

  23. I don’t think it’s so much the Judge’s save that is bad so much as I think the way it is being used is not so good. It has the potential to do great good or great harm, but it all depends on how it is played. Personally, I’m kind of enjoying it. I have to be honest. It adds an interesting new twist to the show that actually makes Wednesday nights a little more interesting and unpredictable. As I’ve said before, people will hate the save until it is actually used. Then they will change their attitude toward it.

  24. Galen as much as I love Anoop, if he is voted out next week, I hope he is not saved. The voters have their say on who should remain on the show. I do not want the judges to have any more power than they already have. 😮

    Like

  25. Oh, I agree wholeheartedly with you, Kariann. It would just be wrong if the judges used the save on Anoop next week. I would even question their decision if they used it to save Lil as well. It needs to be used in case of a shocker. Not just because “time is running out” for them to use it. Honestly, I think Scott last week was their best chance to use it, and I believe they missed that opportunity and will probably come to regret their decision.

  26. Seems we must agree to disagree, Galen. 🙂 The Judges Save should never have been invented, and should not be used for anyone. It is just an awful idea, IMO.

    Like

  27. Well, there’s nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree, Kariann. Though I am admittedly more for the Judges’ Save than against it, I will admit that it has its imperfections for sure. For instance, the judges need to be given more time to deliberate concerning about each contestant’s performance so that they’re not rushed into making a hasty decision. Also, though Simon is my favorite judge, I don’t like how he has more pull with the save than the other judges. They all should have equal power. With a few minor tweaks, I think this whole Judges’ Save concept could be excellent. Unfortunately, right now we are kind of in the experimental stage of it. The producers are trying it out to see what its strengths and weaknesses are in hopes of perhaps fixing its shortcomings in the next season. In the end, however, I have to stand by my opinion that the Judges’ Save does more good than it does harm.

  28. From what I understand, there is a lunch time meeting. Judges and producers attend and this is where they discuss matters of the upcoming show. It is my beliefe that they discuss who they are willing to save and not save.

All this deliberation seems to be a ploy to add dramatic fake suspense to the show. I think it has hurt the show more than help. Just my opinion, of course. 🙂

  29. That’s very interesting, Kariann. I’m just curious. Where did you hear about these “lunch time meetings”? It’s not by any means that I don’t believe you, but I would like to look into this myself.

Still, a lunch between the judges and producers isn’t necessarily a HORRIBLE thing. There does have to be some communication between those two groups for the show to function smoothly. Also, if the judges (and possibly producers) sit and discuss the previous night’s performances, I am actually glad that they are being analyzed more in-depth. This tells me that the judges have truly given some thought as to who they should save or not save before the results show. I just hope (and choose to believe for the time being) that their decision is based on the contestants’ performances and not about the drama.

  30. Galen, it was discussed on the TWoP forums. Also, one of the contestants mentioned it. Oh, and a column said something about Paula missing the luncheon. I wish I could provide a link for you.

Please don’t quote me, but at these meetings, some of the scripted moments (jokes) are discussed. Ryan and Simon banter over the so-called gay references. (Not so much this year.)

I have wondered about Scott’s joke about bringing the piano closer. Was he told to say that? I just don’t know. At least in Season 1, I didn’t feel the show was so manipulative or even scripted.

    Like

  31. I don’t think Scott’s comments sounded scripted at all. Interesting thought though.

Having a judges lunch sort of makes sense because making up jokes on the fly is hard. I’m not saying it’s right to plan on who to save, but I can see why they would do it to make things easier on results night.

  32. I think that so many of us forget ‘American Idol’ is a REALITY SHOW! All reality shows have scripted moments or activity planned in advance. I didn’t know much about it until Season 3. I was disappointed, but Kirsten you are right. Some of the jokes do seem planned.

One thing that was NOT planned is Paula giving Jason a review on his second song which he hadn’t sung yet. This, to me, was the lowest point in AI history. My second choice would be the mix-up on the phone lines for the Season 2 Finale.

All in all, I do love the show! 🙂
