In 1996, in honour of the Ontario Choral Federation’s 25th Anniversary, Rosanne was selected as one of 25 recipients of the OCF’s Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to the choral art. The ceremony was presided by Lieutenant Governor, Hal Jackman. In November 1997, Rosanne Simunovic was selected by the Rotary Club Of Timmins to receive the prestigious Paul Harris Award for her years of dedication to the artistic development of young musical talent in Timmins. 1. Here is a non-traditional Chanukah song–Light One Candle by Peter, Paul, and Mary: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=43J-gYOnLoI

(It is available on iTunes and Amazon, in several versions. I like the one in “A Holiday Celebration with the New York Choral Society”.)

    I love your first choices!!

my video of David Archuleta singing Imagine at the Holiday of Hope Tree lighting ceremony in Hollywood, California — then David lights up the tree with Santa

David singing Angels followed by Oh Holy Night at same event – again my “side ways” video – but super up close and great audio of Oh Holy Night – my favorite of favorites.

  8. Thanks for stopping by everyone. I am off to watch all these great performances you have so graciously sent to me.

It is -30 Celsius here in Timmins – so cold I want to scream. Plus, my dental problem is still nagging, as I wait for an appointment with the surgeon. Ugh

However, I am enjoying the quiet time with my family. Moving slow, but still moving at least. haha

MCL– really? -30? That is UNBELIEVABLE!! I just cannot fathom it! Bundle up well–and I will say a few prayers for your health, that sounds so painful…

  17. ArchieFanDoc – that video was absolutely heavenly. It was a reverent performance and the sensitivity and musicality of both of these singers were outstanding.

David and Celine both use their technical skills to perfection. Their voices are very transparent. Listen to the blend of those two voices – like one!

What a great video and so inspired. And to find two singers singing this song at the same tempo must have been no small feat. Kudos

  18. Bizzee – yes, I did see this performance of “O Come All Ye Faithful” but it is definitely worth a repeat here on this post. Thanks for sending it.

  19. ArchieFanDoc, the video was excellent! ‘Oh Holy Night’ has to be one of my absolute favourite Christmas songs when sung properly and this was just excellent! Thank you!

I’m having fun posting links and videos so here is one more video to share with you. It is “Oh Holy Night” and “Amazing Grace” sung by David who was made a guest appearance with the Osmonds.

  22. You’re welcome, marc! I thought it was fairly obscure, but there are 20 versions of it on Amazon just in downloads! So I guess it’s more popular than I realized. Sephardic music is wonderful, heavily Latin-influenced (well, “Sephard” means Spain)–and of course, Spanish music has the Jewish influence, too.

What a year it’s been. We were taken on a ride that none of us could have imagined a year ago. Thank you David and thank you MCL!!! For me it all started with AI Season 7 auditions and ended with Jingle Ball Sacramento.

    What will next year bring???

  24. Rereader – have you heard Dave Koz’s CD – “A Smooth Jazz Christmas?”

Although it’s mainly a Christmas CD, there is a really great Hannukah song called “Eight Candles”.

It just instrumental, but what a great melody. Perhaps you will recognize it? The whole CD is a gem, actually.

Here is the link to a brief sampling of “Eight Candles”

  26. One more link…it’s not a song by any Idols or our beloved David. It is, however, one of my favourite non-traditional Christmas songs and my way of wishing everyone here, and especially MCL, a very Merry Christmas and All the Best in the New Year!

  27. MCL, I was able to find the whole song online–it is not a familiar tune (I suspect the artist wrote it himself). I like it very much, even if it doesn’t say anything Chanukah-like to me! I may just buy the track anyway, though…

  28. Bizzee – I absolutely love this song. My choir – Timmins Youth Singers – performed this song with a group called Urban Folk (both are brothers and former members of the TYS) at a very special Christmas concert. I wrote a special arrangement of this song for Urban Folk and the TYS and it really sounded gorgeous.

As the singers performed the song, we had a slideshow projected on a large screen depicting special people form our community that have made a differencei n our lives. Not a dry eye in the house!

I should really upload the video to YouTube – but I want to make sure that the audio is okay. Thanks for sending this link – this song is just perfect for this-and any – time of year

  36. Wow -what a beautiful version of White Christmas and the video is excellent. That Church is fortunate indeed to be surrounded with excellent musical parishioners.

Now, if I can get Jason to drop his jaw and round out that mouth, I would be a happy Christmas elf. Right now, he is using about 20% of his vocal capability. C’mon Jason. We know you can do it! You were making great technical inroads during the Idol tour.

Thanks for sending this Rereader – I just love my Jason and I wish him all the success that this world has to offer.
