For me, a lot of the joy went out of the show with Jason, and lot more tension came in (possibly a function of the lack of time and the increase in material to master)–but I do hope to see these two performers bring some of that back this week!

And I am so excited about Tuesday night! I don’t know why, but I have such a good feeling. Maybe it’s just that I realize both of the top two are quite deserving and will achieve great success, so I feel that I get to watch some great performances without worrying about the future of either guy. (Because I can’t be the only one noticing that they are each stars in their own right.)

I am so anxious to see what guests will be appearing on the Finale. My wish list did include Carly Simon and Bob Dylan.

I agree that Jennifer Hudson has really made a career for herself…I indeed remember her and always felt that she was suited for the Broadway stream!

I think Jennifer Hudson’s success has surprised me the most. I knew she was a very talented singer but, to me, did not represent the total “pop mainstream” package.

Thank heavens “Dreamgirls” came along and allowed her to enjoy the success she truly deserves.

I think he’s overcompensating with the aggressive approach. As a singer myself, I know that when I’m stressed and/or nervous, or even when I just think too much, I have a hard time getting into my mix, and all those nasty habits come in: my throat is a mess, my larynx rises, and my diaphragmatic support just goes. (With the latter, I sometimes end up overblowing my vocal cords.) Yeah, the sound is passable, but being self-critical, I just think I sound terrible. And I know how to do ALL those things correctly, but when I can’t relax and second-guess myself, I start activating those extra muscles that don’t help with singing at all (outer muscles of the larynx, etc.).

I hope he finds some balance and rest. I’m sure the stress and length of the competition have gotten to both Davids, and I wish them both the best. I think both are so deserving of the title, so I don’t think I’d consider it a loss either way as a fan. =)

I wanted to take a moment to tell you how much I have appreciated your reviews of the American Idol contestants this season. Since becoming aware of your site this year, I have awaited anxiously each week for your reviews. I have been a casual viewer of American Idol since season two, but this year I became captivated with David Archuleta. This compelled me to devour all things Idol. My teenage daughters are so surprised that mom has learned about blogs, chat rooms, I-tunes, you-tube, texting, etc. It has been fun. It has also been very frustrating, discouraging, and depressing.

I have been so disheartened by the negativity, cynicism, sarcasm, rudeness, and at times utter cruelty of many of the journalists, reviewers, and bloggers on- line and in the media. Is this, to borrow your phrase, a “sad statement and scary reflection of our society today“? I want to applaud you, actually give you a standing ovation, for your honest and fair critique of the contestants which is always offered with a spirit of grace, kindness, wisdom, encouragement, and appreciation of each and every one of their gifts and talent. I believe you are a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person. You, masterclasslady, are a breath of fresh air. Thank you again for sharing your time and expertise and providing the world with an unbiased, intellectual, and eloquent review of the American Idol contestants this season.
